Please search next time.... You are SOL; your Blose HU is done, time to go aftermarket (or spend $$$ to have it fixed).

Just get a non-bose one or go aftermarket as stated above. Mine still works flawlessly being a non-bose..

For now, listen to the radio or use a portable cd player and plug in a cassete adapter or fm transmitter. Once you have enough money, get an aftermarket HU. I've got my stock Bose HU and I hate it because sometimes it will only play the right channel audio from a CD if you hit a bump hard enough. I hope to get a new one once I save enough money.

Mine did the same thing. I even have a re-mfg one that supposedly had all the problems corrected..... wrong. I can't even get my 6 favorite CDs out of it. Time to get an aftermarket I guess, not really what I want to spend money on.

Would using a lense cleaner help? I know mine shows "Err" every now and then and I'm going to try using the lense cleaner...anyone else give it a shot?

My Setup: 2K SE w/ Bose single CD HU. Sometime the CD will also stop working with the Err message. A lot of times I end up using the tape to play my iPod and give it a 'rest' for a week or so and then it work again. Albeit it will stop working again some time later, the repeat the whole process.

I ran a laser lens cleaner MANY times in that POS and it started working. It doesn't like to read a couple CDs, but most of mine work.

I have a theory for the problem when you get audio from one channel or none at all (may or may not show an error message). Since it will only do it when listening to a CD, it is definatley something with the CD player. Most CD players use a laser that moves back and forth on a track; which it uses to focus the laser on the part of the cd that you are listening to. On my 2003, I have never gotten an error message, it sometimes cuts in and out, and it will often only play sound from one channel (so far it always plays the right channel and subwoofer only plays at about half volume) if you hit a bump hard enough (ex: going over train tracks at 45 MPH). Usually, I can get it to play on both channels again if I hit another bump hard enough. I think that what happens is when you hit a bump or something, it knocks the laser out of alignment, causing it to only read part of the cd track. I noticed that the problem only gets worse as the mileage on your car increases; so I think that the more miles you have on your car, the more severe the problem is. Eventually, it gets knocked far enough out of alignment that it doesn't read the disk at all and then gives you an error message. What do you guys think? Just for reference, my car has about 58,000 miles. How many does your car have and how severe is the problem for you?

well.. screw that hu you have now lol i have my bose hu just lying under my bed if you want to buy it.. the face is clean.. no scratches and worked perfectly when it was in my car.. only thing is.. i was an idiot about removing the screws.. i cudnt remove them with a screwdriver and brok 3 phillip bits off my drill trying to removed them.. so i drilled them out only to later find out that all i had to do was tap them with a hammer and they came out.. and now part of the screws are still stuck in there but can be removed.. lemme know if you want it or not. yea i remember reading an old post about this, but like whoever said, better off getting a new hu that can play mp3 discs so you wouldnt need a cd changer anymore plus a lil extra room since it wont be taking up all your dash i was also told that i had to replace all my speakers because of some lock bose speakers had with its hu. so i ended up changing all my speakers but whatever, i was going to do it anyway.

(omg.. like 3 lbs) LOL

I think I may be the only person with over 85k miles on an '02 with no CD player issues. It never cuts in/out, and it errors once in a blue moon. Otherwise, no problems. :attention

Bose has ever sounded good? No offense, but I want some of what you're on.

My $55 logitech PC speakers make comparable sound quality and volume. That's just sad. The THX ceritfied logitechs blow any stock Bose crap out of the water for 130-250 bucks.

Get Sirius Satellite radio and you won't even miss your CD player. I got Sirius about 1.5 years ago and I don't think I've used my CD player since.

LOL im on some poor neighborhood, tight money, and would care less about volume over quality.. no offense taken buddy.. but.. i run a Pioneer best of its model DEH hu with the factory bose door speakers. When i first bought the car.. yea the bose sounded "nice" but that bass just wznt there when it high volume. So came the DEH, stuck that bad boy in, and turned on its HPF (high pass filter (to cut off bass from the door speakers to your liking)), and you would be surprised. And we're talking car stereo and not home theatre stereo that some people may mix.. and match lol no offense but i've seen some people do that.. like the new fad around my "hood" is to use concert EV's and stick them in thier car.. sounds lik crap by the way cause thier so screechy and unclear. But i digress.. you would realy be surprised what a lil tuning and tweeking does.. imo my bose is good enuff. Oh.. and i run tsunami power wire, stinger rca wire, and a 400w Visonik amp powering a single 12" Alpine TypeR subwoofer.. more than enuff bass. I love my system b/c its loud and clear..

Even at low volume it sounds like *** in my car. My uncle has bose crap in his loaded chevy turbo diesel, it sounds like cheap **** also. Maybe if you have music that can't doesn't have a huge range of frequencies with multiple instruments at the same time (especially between 20-300 Hz)? All I know is that it's muddy and lackluster at best. BTW, I listen to a lot of KoRn and the 3 guitars just love to eat crappy speakers.

Have any of you guys listened to a Bose radio in any of the newer Audis? My friend had an 03 TT and the sound quality was impressive. Edmunds said that the A6 has one of the best sounding stereos they have ever heard. My 2003 has excellent bass now that I fixed all of the rattling and vibration, but it is a little underpowered when cranked up all the way.
