Is your car Cali or Fed spec?

If it is Cali, you need the dual, is it Fed you only need the single.

same thing here: 0430 on a Cali spec.

that means I need the dual output sim, correct?

Taken Right out of the FAQ section for those too lazy to search.

"o2 simulator is a device that can be used to avoid Check Engine when catalytic converter is removed in OBDII cars. It simulates the secondary oxygen sensor signal and makes ECU 'think' that converter is present and is in working condition. This prevents ECU to set the error code and light up Check Engine indicator."

If inspection requires you have no SES light, then yes. Probably not if they physically inspect the car in great detail.

It depends on which O2 sensor you are simulating.

i think u need to get 1 dual-output or 2 single-output.

1 dual output would seem like the logical choice.

Sorry to thread jack, but I have a similar question. I am hoping we can work together to try and figure this out. I am trying to get rid of a 0420 code using the o2 simulator as well. My o2 simulator configuration looks like this.

In addition, there is the 4th o2 simulator in the towards the rear of the engine, on the pass side near the spark plugs.

After doing some research, it appears as if the 3rd sensor from the right, in the top photo, labelled "Secondary Sensor 2, Bank 1" is one of the sensors that need to be simulated. Furthermore, I have learned that the 4th sensor, towards the rear of the motor, in the second picture labelled "H02S1-B1," is the primary bank 1 sensor. When trying to eliminate the 0420 codes, I know i need to simulate the bank 1 sensors, but do i need to do both of them? or just the primary or just the secondary.
In addition, i have looked at the wires on the harness end of the sensor, and they are not consistent throughout all 4 sensors. One of them has a pink wire, and by process of elimination, it seems to be the red/yellow wire on the other sensors, being the power wire.
Has anyone else encountered this? Finally, the 4th sensor, in the rear the "H02S1B1" only has three wires going to it. I think it may be missing the ground. Can anyone confirm this/and or provide some additional info?

Thanks in advance to the .org, i know i am still a newb, but you have all provided some great info to me in the past.

Anorth,

Quite a few members are in the same spot, including myself. Your thread is completely related to the topic, so dont worry there.

time is also running for me, my deadline is july 22nd. I have to fix this crappy code soon.

coming back to your questions, I am not sure about the order of the O2 sensors but I have the laptop with OBD scanner and I plan on reading the outputs and disconnecting one by one and checking which connector is each.

you seem to also have a Cali spec, with 4 sensors. If that is the case, you should have this config:

FRONT-01
PRE-CAT INBETWEEN
FRONT-02

REAR-01
PRE-CAT INBETWEEN
REAR-02

My OBD Progam labels then as follow:

O2S11 / O2S12 / O2S21 / O2S22

The readings from the OBD are here:

You have code 0420, which is opposite cyl bank from 0430 (i always get confused which code goes with each bank).

I think best thing for 0430 & 0420 is to get O2 Sim Dual-output and connect to both 2nd feedback O2 sensors.

Let me know when you about to do ur job.

Good luck

You can't sim the primary sensors, they are needed to determine fuel maps.

Only the secondary sensors can be done.

The 420 code is only reffering to the secondary sensor, not the primary.

So all you NEED to sim is the one secondary, I would sim both secondary sensors with a dual and get it over with though.

Wow thanks very much for the quick replies. So...i should try and to hook up the simulator to the secondary sensor for bank 1, the third on the right? and then, just to save myself sometime in the future, hook it up to the secondary sensor for bank 2, the second on the right?

Is the 0430 code the same as the 0420 but for the bank 2 sensors?

edit- bborges thanks for the screen shot.

Yes, to all.

The two middle sensors are the secondary sensors the two on the outside are the primary.

Well Klee, that answers your question. You should use a dual output sim to simulate the two middle sensors, the secondaries for both bank 1 and bank 2.
Has anyone noticed that the color of the wires is not consistent among all 4 sensors on the harness side? Hell, as i said before, the primary on bank 1 only has 3 wires?

Just an FYI... When you install the sim, you HAVE to install it BEFORE the harness.

Do not install it after the harness on the wires that go directly to the sensor.

Its because theres no heater circuit on the primaries. The 4th wire on the secondaries in the heater circuit wire.
