So you do have the BOSE system, but without the BOSE sub(?), and want to replace the aftermarket HU with OEM BOSE HU?

dude, there's no bose amp, the speakers are individually amped. no sub either, i don't know where your gettin your info from but bose is a head unit and 4 amped speakers and maybe a 6 disc changer if you got that option. and yeah, go aftermarket to get better sound, infinity's or jl's sound pretty good, and i have a alpine e series sub and a sirius set up as well

"max ride 41" is exactly right. All speakers are powered up separate, no amp period.. If you are going to change something you will need to change everything else, mind as well... since your getting rid of your boss system.

To be honest i find my boss system just fine, but that's just me.

Quick clarification question... Are you doing this to sell the car?

Very odd. In my 2k2 GLE w/Bose, my HU and speakers were all clearly labeled Clarion with the exception of the Bose Amplifier on the rear deck and the Bose sub. None of the speakers are amplified. I have all of them sitting at home in a box along with the HU and sub. I ripped mine at rather quickly.

Isnt just the Bose Sub amplified by the small amp connected to the rear deck and the rest of the speakers powered by the headunit?

no i am not selling the car... i want to restore the original head unit.. just wasnt sure that by doing so that the speakers would respond.

i know everyone thinks i should just replace everything....i would just like to know whether or not the bose hu would work with non bose speakers....

Well, it's not a Bose HU it's a Clarion HU. Now that we got that straight yes you can use non "Clarion" speakers with your "Clarion" HU. What I'm not sure about is the ohm output of the "Bose" amplifier to each speaker location. Once you figure that out you can purchase the correct speakers. Alternatively you could just change the amplifier out and buy any speaker. Just of note though, the has horrible sound quality.

No, he is actually exactly wrong. Amps on each driver ended with the 4th gens in 99.

Yes I did just dig up a month old thread.

my 02 se had the bose hu, but now has a kenwood excelon hu, with factory (bose) speakers that are all powered from the hu. i added my jl's to the mix, and with doing so the bose sub was disconected. i was also told that if i wanted to run the bose hu, and jus add subs, that i was going to have to get a "clarifier"(not exactly sure what the guy was talkin bout)!
