I purchased my '02 Max in April '06 and the previous owner had installed OEM rotors and pads. I've put over 40k on the car in 15 months and over half of that was with the dreaded shimmy shimmy shake on the front.

Due to good past experiences with AutoZone brake parts, I installed Wearever/Bendix rotors with FrictionMaster ceramic pads from AutoZone a few weeks ago and am very pleased.

Total cost was $150 which included brake cleaner, big a$$ bottle of fluid, and a diet Dew. If I have any issues down the road, I'll definately post an update, but I doubt I will.

Oops, looks like I upset the Brake King and some of his cronies.

Talk about getting defensive. What an effort to dissect my last post, I must have hit a nerve.
LOL, those icons add much to your creditability, do you use them in your project meetings as well.
I am sure Irish you are one smart SOB.LOL

From what I see, it looked to be a pretty objective response to your comments. If you want to continue the debate on brakes, that is fine, but please don't resort to personal attacks. That just invites more worthless posts. Same thing applies to everyone else. Thanks.

wow I didnt mean to cause such a commotion! I just want to get rid of the stupid stock shimmy up front, and needed a good suggestion for replacements. I think i'll stick with brembo blanks and hawk hps pads...

Actually, it is called "discussion" or "point-counterpoint." It's what people do when they are talking about subjective topics. Don't cry just because you can't support your own arguments.

Any thoughts would be appreciated......

Thanks.....
the Hawk ceramics are pretty new, IIRC. Give them a try and let us know.

As to "recommended" stock pads - They just tell you that because ceramics dust less and tend to be less harsh on rotors. Nissan doesn't want you complaining about brake dust or torn up rotors, ya know?

Crying? Arguments?
I was stating experience and opinion. You became defensive and still are.

BTW Irish your statement:
"No, they don't. Rotational mass is only a real issue at the initiation of
momentum or near it. " is incorrect. You seem to have rotational inertia and
rotational mass confused.

What was your degree in again? I hope your an EE cause an ME should know
this cold.

I don't see why this has to be an argument over educational background? Looking at this objectively I would have to side with the person who has the most experience in the subject at hand; In this case, the Maxima's Suspension and Braking system. Josh, you got like what, 3 5th gens? I swear there's gotta be a used nissan dealership at your house. And then there's a guy who's got 45 posts and swear he knows better because he's an EE (thats ELECTRICAL) and passed all the ASEs he took. Great job, seriously, no undermining intended. I just see someone speaking from personal experience, and another person who's not here much speaking then saying "listen to me because I'm smart!"

Bottom Line; You're both entitled to your Opinions. I'll still keep asking for advice from Irish for brakes/suspension on the 5th gen, and Maybe when i get this APEXi AFC NEO I have my eye on, I just might hit you up for some wiring tips

PS- Josh; you Might have missed it, but I asked If you had any experience with EBC RedStuff or what your impressions of them are?

Thanks Irish for responding to my question on hawk ceramics......I will give them a try and see how they work......

As for the whole weight of rotors/wheels things, I dont know if I completely agree with your comment: "Rotational mass is only a real issue at the initiation of momentum or near it."

When accelerating, it takes a force to accelerate anything which is proportional to the mass no matter how fast you are going. (Force = Mass x Accel.). This applies to rotational as well as linear. I have thought about this a lot (yes...as an engineer I am enough of a geek to actually think about this in my spare time).

The added weight will actually hit you 2 fold, once in rotational acceleration of the rotor/wheel and once in the linear acceleration of the car. However, will this add a half second to the 1/4 time? I personally wouldnt think it would have that much effect.

I think what you might be getting at is that as you go faster, other factors come into play and become more of an issue than the weight of the wheels (i.e. by far the number one thing is air resistance). So the effect of the extra wheel weight becomes much less of a factor. But again, I definately find it hard to believe that a little heavier rotor would add a 1/2 second to the 1/4 time. That is "an assload of time".....

This is the understatement of the year I put PBR / Axxis Ultimates on my Max about 2 years ago, and I'm about ready to throw them out and replace them even though they're not worn out because I just can't take the dust and the squealing anymore. I'm not driving a semi or a bus, but you wouldn't know it from listening to the brakes

The only question is whether I replace 'em with Hawk HPS or PBR / Axxis Metal Master.
