I believe '02 3.5 engine has Drive by Wire .. but
what is the difference between drive by wire and throttle by wire that is say in Honda Odyssey? Could someone provide input? Is drive by wire also adaptable (learns driver's behavior and adjusts accordingly)?
drive by wire just means that when you press the gas pedal, it transmits an electronic signal through the ECU to the throttle body, and a little motor moves the butterfly valve to allow air into the engine.
as opposed to a cable throttle, where there is literally a cable from the accelerator linkage directly to the throttle body, so your foot is actually opening the butterfly with its own power.
oh, and cable throttle means you can rev the engine from under the hood

That didn't help Josh. Read the ? again. I thought the same thing, but read it again and that was not what the point was.
HINT: Both systems he mentioned have the word wire in them.
They're the same thing, described in different words. The FSM mentions nothing of learning how a driver drives and does not adjusts TBW/DBW accordingly. It does re: fuel trims and AT shifting characteristics, but not TBW/DBW
