Starter Problems - Help please(kinda long)

Hello.

I have a 2000 GXE and I have been having starter problems for the last couple of weeks and it's driving me crazy. First off, sometimes when I would try to start my car, it wouldn't crank, but I would hear the solenoid click. I replaced the starter and less than a week later, it does the same thing, so I replace it again. About a week goes by and this starter is now doing the same thing.

I have triple-checked all connections. I have also tried regrounding the starter with 4 guage wire and it still does it. I have yet to replace the ignition switch, but from what I read, if you can hear the solenoid click, then the switch is working. I have also checked all fuses and tested all relays and they were all good.

I really have no other clue as to what may be causing this. After the car sits for a while, it will start up fine. This morning, I unhooked and cleaned/sanded all connections and then proceeded to start the car 10 times and it started perfectly all 10 times. I then went and ran some errands and when I got home, I turned the car off, and then immediately tried starting it again and all it did was click.

Any input would be appreciated. BTW, no codes are being thrown and every time the starter does decide to work, it works perfectly.

Thanks in advance.

I just took off the starter and had it tested at autozone and it tested fine. When taking it out, I noticed that the solenoid was very hot. My car always starts fine when the engine is cold, but once it has heated up, the problems start. I think that this may be my problem.

If anyone else has any ideas, please reply.

Well, I'm not completely sure, but I know how frustrating it can be to not get a response to a problem you're having, so I'm gonna say something just to let you know you're not being ignored by everybody.. lol

Since this seems to be a mystery, I would look at everything that can possibly be a problem in starting the car... from the ignition switch to the battery, to the alternator (not the starter in your case), and all of the other compenents that are involved in starting the car. Have your battery and alternator tested at autozone too to eliminate those. Maybve you should replace the ignition switch anyway, because you might have received wrong info. What else can go bad besides the things I've named?

Thanks for the ideas.

I just want to gather as much info and possible solutions as I can because I will have plenty of time to work on it while on vacation from work next week.
