2k Dies Upon start

today i tried to start my 2k which has been running great until now. when i start the car, it cranks normally and then will BARLEY start. it is starts running at about 200 rpm and then barley goes up to 700-1000. Then it got worse. when i would start it, the car went to 1000 rpm and then went right back down to ZERO. I found that if i gave it some gas as soon as it started, the car would run fine. I would assume the car is needs a new Idle Control Valve. is this right?

My Car:

2k Maxima SE
5 Speed
NO mods

Since the car cranks and starts it is probably nothing to do with the battery. It could very well be the IAVC but it could also be the MAF. Is the SES light on? If so, get the codes pulled.

Is this on a HOT restart after the car has been sitting for a while and the engine is still hot ? Or is it a COLD start ?

HOT - you need a new fuel pressure regulator, its a hot soak problem.

COLD- IACV.

it could be anything.. more likely a IACV... no battery related problem

no ses light.

and when it was cold, it completely died, and i THINK when it was hot, it went to 200rpm and then stayed alive

Idle Air Control Valve.

Mike, thanks for the suggestion. Mine dies intermittently after a hot shut down, like if I turn off the engine to fill gas.

I had the EXACT problem, clean out your throttle body first, that fixed the problem for me. I have a 2k as well. clean that out for a few bucks first before buying a new MAF or IACV

I had to replace my IACV but my symptoms were different than yours and I had a SES light. Mine would start fine and then rev up to around 2200 RPMS and stay there. From what I've read, it sounds to me like its a MAF problem

Its the MAF, try unplugging it. The car should start but only rev up to 2000-2500rpm.

Yeah, you can get a 2000-2001 MAF, either will work i'm fairly certain. I've never replaced my MAF, but here are some links to other MAF threads.

OK I'm sorry to have to post in an old thread, but I cannot make my own and I am in a lot of trouble!!!!

My problem is very similar to this one except I have a 2002 SE.

Just wanted to see what you guys think. PLEASE HELP!!!

I was driving home from work and my car died on me. Could not get it to run again.

Whenever I try to start the car it will turn over and fire for a split second, going to 1000rpms, and then flutter back down to 0. Every single time it does the same thing routinely.

I have already had problems with my Idle before this getting a check engine light because someone at mobil thought it was a good idea to clean my throttle body, me finding out later this is a big no no. Anyways, so the idle was never right (a bit high at 1000rpms) and I have drove it this way for months because I cannot do an idle air relearn because my two rear bank O2 sensors are bad, and the ECU restricts codes to be reset until all problems are fixed according to a TSB.

So I thinking the main problem with the car not wanting to run was coming from a sensor. I unplugged the MAF sensor and the car would hesistate for a microsecond before firing up in limp mode.

I plugged in a code reader my friend had and got the low input p0102 for the MAF, but this could be thrown because the car simply isnt starting right?

My question is, does the fact the car starts without the MAF sensor plugged in constitute that as my problem? Or can starting the car without the MAF to run in limp mode be overriding the real problem.

I just need to get this figured out ASAP, if someone could help me!!!!!

THANK YOU!!!
