Throw Out Bearing.... who has replaced this?

I hear this nasty noise coming from around my transmission that goes away when I press down on the clutch. I am assuming that this noise is the throw out bearing. Has anyone changed this them self or does everyone just take it to a shop? I have a tranny jack at home if that will help me out at all. Any input would be appreciated.

I am almost certain the motor may need to be lifted up a bit to get the tranny out of the way to get at the throwout bearing on these cars, but not positive. The actual replacement of the TO bearing isn't difficult.

You have to give us more info
A release or throw out bearing will make noise when clutch engaged and clutch depressed enough to take up free play
or with the pedal down to the floor and clutch fully disengaged

A pilot bushing will make noise with engine running and clutch fully disengaged.
Now if you get there you might as well replace both and perhaps do a clutch job as well if overdue.

yeah if I do this my self im not wasting the effort to change one bushing, i was thinking about doing all the bushings, the clutch/pressureplate and maybe a flywheel

as for more information.... all I can say is the sound goes away when I press the clutch down to the floor, when its released in idle i hear the noise and when im driving around (its loudest in the lower gears) it sounds like im going in reverse

besides the tranny jack, i have a trolly jack with a 22" lift so if I put my car up on stands I can still use the jack to give the engine some lift if its required... i really dont want to spend $1000 on labor if I can do any of this

Input shaft bearing is cooked.

But on the positive side, you can do the clutch when the tranny is off and you are having it rebuilt.

If it makes noise when you are driving around in neutral with clutch released then it's a trannsmission problem since clutch is desingaged.
But then you said noise goes away with clutch on the floor. Is that while not moving?

This is a pretty common problem. Out of all 4 maximas i have had they all did it. Not as bad as u made it sound but when my clutch is out in neutral and at idle i have always heard a lil noise even after a new clutch installed. Now the noise u hear when ur in the lower gears, not sure what that could be.
