Hello everyone!

I am in need of the new 02' Maxima tail lights, not for me really, but rather for my girlfriends 01' Maxima. I want to get these for her for her b-day (coming up next month).

I'm not really into the Maxima scene myself since I drive another car, but I know she really wants these. They are the same size as her lights no?

Thanks for any help guys/gals!

We think they will fit. They won't be available for a few months though.

I honestly think that the 2k2 lights look like crap. I'd rather see a fully blacked out gxe/gle lights...

The whole rear design of the new Maxima (2K2) is different?? I don't think so. From all of the pictures that I have seen it has the same trunk and even the same bumper as the 2k-2k1's. The 2K2 taillamps look like they should fit.

Unless her car is already an SE or AE, forget the 2002 lights and get her the 'smoked' 2001 lights. There is something about the 2002's (other than just generally looking like crap) that has a boat-looking portal quality, or the dial of some kind of diving watch...you know that metal ringed, etc. look.

Since these are a true love/hate part, I would at least get some feeling from her before you buy something she will hate. Save yourself the headache!!

Hey guys

Not to dig, but he was not looking for opinions. He was looking on fitment issue for a B-day gift. We all should know women. They ask, we get. Period. Lets give him good support so that he will be "happy" in the evenings!

FWIW, since only a very few of us have actually seen the '02 in the flesh, it would be a tough call to guarantee. If you can get the part, being a new part on car there might not be overstock yet (just a theory), ask the dealership/part provider on returnability if not mounted/usable. From what most of us have seen (based on pictures) the rear end looks virtually untouched except for the lamps. I wish you the best of luck!

I love the new tail lights. (at least from the pictures). I'll see the new 2002 Maxima at Maxus and decide if I want to order them from David Burnette.

From what I remember

Dave B said that they will in fact fit. It's the HID headlights that won't match. outsider, send Dave B a PM (private message) and he can fill you in on when they're gonna be available.

It's true- Regardless of how p-whipped any particular .org member may be, (I'm sure I'm one to talk here!), I will be the first to get the '02 taillights. When I do, I will test & compare to make sure they really are a retro-fit!

Hey man, is it your girl friend's Maxima? Or is it her parent's or the dealers? You might want to find out before getting them. Also, are you sure your gf wants to modify her car?

Here is a little story I experienced. a year ago, I bought my teacher some sports pedal for Christmas. He brought it home and his wife won't let him install them. So he ended up having a big fight with his wife. My came to school mad at me. I didn't knwo what the hell happened, so my year with that teacher was pretty bad. Make sure this doesn't happen to you.

Lots of concern over the present here I see Well, not to worry, it is her car, and it is something I know she does want. If it was up to her she would trade the whole car in for 02', but that aint gonna be happening (lose too much in the trade in).

I like the innovative approach Nissan took toward the Altezza look but I wouldn't want them on my Max but I do realize that this may be the look of the future so I may have to get use to it and Luv it after all.

I think there are a bunch of jealous people on this board. I think the new tail lights really make the MAxima stand out from the TL crowd.

I know I want 'em been after clear lights before the Altezza craze hit here. I'm amazed that APC never made one for the maxima. they made it for every tob **** and harry car out there.
And its done good too. its not plastic cut out. Its looks like the new BMW 3series clear lights.

I really hope that the '02 taillamps fit on the '00-'01 models. They definately appear that they will fit. And if they do, Nissan will have many (myself included) '00-'01 Max owners installing them on their Max's. And you wouldn't have to go aftermarket...which is always a little scary. Even the first day I bought my Max I thought that the rear just needed something.

It is strange to me that many of the people that trash the "Altezza" style taillamps also have the clear side-markers. That doesn't make sense to me.

I know I may hold another minority opinion here, but isn't putting later model taillights on an older car a bit dishonest? It's like trying to make others think you're driving 2002 when you're not. You might as well remove the Nissan badges on your Maxima and replace them with Lamorghini emblems to fake everyone out (well, not really everyone).

I think it would only be dishonest if you tried to sell it as a different car... I guess it would be also if you tried to convince someone that your car was something it wasn't... but replacing something because you like a different something else just for personal taste is fine

No. I'm going to put them on because I like them. Dishonesty is putting an AE Edition or GTR badge on a Maxima that is not. I would be dishonest if you indenfified your 2000 or 2001 Maxima as a 2002 though. Smart Maxima owners would be able to tell the difference by other body parts and interior features anyway.

Let me put it another way. I've been involved for years in classic car clubs that restore and show old cars. I still belong to CHVA (Contemporary Historical Vehicle Association). When a car is judged at a meet that has judging, the inspectors come by with their clip boards and look for authenticity. Autos with anything on them that is not stock for the year of manufacture loses points, down to the brand of spark plugs. For example, my old ‘51 Pontiac had a ‘52 Indian chief emblem in the grille that was a gold silhouette with a red background. The previous owner had replaced the ‘51 grille with a ‘52 after an accident, as he thought they were identical. In 1951, and only for ‘51, the emblem had a silver silhouette (it was Pontiac's silver anniversary). This was pointed out to me whenever the club got together. I searched for years until I found one at a swap meet. This sort of nit picking serves to preserve old cars as icons of history and continuity, and keeps alive the memories of how they really looked and sounded. This is still my mind set.

Now I know it will take another 50 years before a 5th generation Maxima becomes a classic car. But when, and if, it does, any external changes, and internal mods for that matter, will detract from its representation as how it used to be. Perhaps one of your great-grandchildren will have to search and find a set of 2001 taillights to replace those 2002's.

So enjoy those 2002 lights. I understand your reasons. But save those 2001's somewhere and pass them on to your children, so they can be reinstalled 50 years from now.

Well, I have said it before and I am saying it again: When I get my post-october 2002 SE I am keeping my smoked tail lights and my 17 inch wheels.

If you (or the person that floats your boat) like the new look by all means, go right ahead.

But rebading to fake other people is just plain wrong.
