ABS light is on Please Help
About 2 days ago I hit a curb and popped the sideway of my 04 max rim witch i put my stock 17's on the front but know when i reach over 120km's the ABS light comes on, could it be the wheel sensor? has this happened to you or any suggestion on how to fix it?
thanks
thanks
i have a 2000 with the 04 rims 18's but i put my stocks 17's back on only on the front because i didnt want to drive with a donut and know my abs light is on when i reach over 120km's because today the shop couldnt get the tire fix and now i have to wait till monday
no vibrations only when i brake but thats because of my rotors
thanks

So your ABS light came on after you put your 17's on up front?

I would not do anything till you have your 18's back on. The 18's in the rear and 17's on the front might be throwing off your ABS system.
Maybe you have different diameter wheels front to back....and ABS sensors are not happy.
If your 2004 Maxima wheels have the OEM size tires....then your rear wheels are currently larger than your stock 17" wheels/tires.
245/45/17 > 225/50/17 => 3% difference
Put the stock 17" wheels/tires on the rear axle too(so all 4 corners have 17" wheels) and see if the light comes on again. I bet it won't.

I've had to run back from the track on my 17s with a 40-series tire up front and my 18s with a 40-series tire in the back.....it doesn't make a difference.

But Irish, without telling us the width of your tire though a 17" 40-series could possibly have the same overall diameter as an 18" 40-series tire. I agree with post 8.

but if you must know:
235/40/18
245/40/17 shaved to 4/32" (which knocks off another 1/2" of diameter)
the 17s are much smaller diameter, in short.

Not much to damage on the ABS system though... If he did, it most likely would be the wire and it would show up right away. If he damaged the components in the hub when he hit the curb... It would be pretty obvious there was major damage when you took the wheel off and if he hit that hard, he would have bigger problems than the ABS system.
I am not really sure how he could damage the wire by hitting a curb.
Assuming he has stock tire size on the 17's... That’s a little over 3% difference between the 18's and 17's since his 18's have 245/45/18's. Once he hit a high enough speed, the ABS system might get confused/interpret a malfunction and shut itself down...
I am not saying he did not damage it, just that I would not start tearing things apart till he at least puts his 18’s back on to see if that is the problem. The tire size differences IMO are most likely what sent the ABS system haywire, especially if he is speeding.
