Car will not start....help needed!

Its a vq30. The car very seldomly start but when it does start it only stays on for 30 seconds or less. Pulled out the coilpacks and put on old ones and still have the same result. Also pulled out the front spark plugs and they are fine. I also unplugged the maf and 02 senor with the same results. Vehicle has fuel in it. Basically when you try to start the car, the engine will turn over but will not ignite. Any help is appreciated.

It's my car btw.

I think it could be this way because 2 or more of the coilpacks are fried. I think If 2 or more don't work, the engine doesn't fire.

Another member said it might be:

1) Fuel pump
2) Crank Position sensor.

sounds like your fuel pump is gone.....I would check that first and go from there.

maybe it's not a VIP fuel pump (sorry, I had to! )

wow ok lol.

I didn't flaunt it in a while........ anyways.

Yeah it starts up sometimes but rarely. I thought our fuel pumps don't die like that.

I can recall a couple of cases, but you are correct, it's not a common occurence. That said, any part can "die" under the right circumstances. F/E, it could be something as simple as a loose or failing electrical connection to the fuel pump.

There are certainly other things that could cause this problem, but fuel starvation seems like the most likely culprit from what you describe.

Let me know what the codes are and I'll most likely be able to tell you what the cause is and how to diagnose and repair the problem.

You try using starting fluid? That will def tell you if you do or dont have a fuel issue.

Man I will never use that stuff in my car - we're not carburated and that fluid can damage sensors.

Here's another question:

If I were to replace the pump, filter, and o-ring, which Walbro pump do I buy for a 2000?

I want a 190lph.

By any chance do you have any aftermarket alarm or remote start?

No, all stock keyless entry. I don't think that'd be the culprit. Good point though.

You'd be surprised. Mine ended up being a combination of a dying battery, and then the alarm required a tachometer re-learn.

Another member said that it could be clogged fuel filters

...Is there a fuel filter in the engine bay? He told there there is one if you follow the fuel lines.

and he also said that our cars can run with 4 cylinders but would be rough as hell.

fuel filter is underneath your back seats along with the fuel pump.

I pulled 5 codes out of my car that don't really help me:

1) P0141 Rear o2 sensor heater bank 1
2) P1401 EGR temp sensor
3) P0100 Mass airflow sensor
4) P0161 Rear o2 sensor heater bank 2
5) P1401 again

I don't have secondary o2 sensors because I have headers and I don't have a simulator plugged in.

I removed my EGR so that's normal.

I have an updated MAF that I unplugged just to get the same results - no ignition.

Try turning your igniton to the on position and see if you can hear the fuel pump kick on. If you can hear the distinctive "whirrr" sound then your pump is fine.
Then i would look into the crankshaft position sensor.

From the 5 codes you pulled t my knowledge none of those should cause a "no-start" situation.
If your fuel delivery is fine then it has to do with electrical. That will include anything from coils, plugs, injectors.
Did you try putting in some good injector cleaner?

I just tried that before posting - Chevron fuel system cleaner concentrate - I dumped the whole bottle in there.

my car stopped starting last night all of a sudden and I'm worried my fuel pump may be bad. I looked at following thread discussing how to change filter but the pictures are gone and I get lost without them. Any one have details on how to change fuel pump? The thread I found was:

Yeah, 00-01 has a fuel return line, 5.5 doesn't.

You know, it could be something very stupid. Since the fuel collector is at the front of the gas tank, my car is on a slope and it's on low.... Perhaps It's not sucking in gas.
