my alternator went for the third time in 6mos on my 2000 maxima and i was wondering if i can put a 4th gen alternator on. i can get one at the you pull it yard for $20 which beats $244 from the local parts store. anyone know?

 

Yes, it fits perfectly.

You may have to change the 2-pin connector though, so be sure to get that one from the donor car as well.

 

It's funny how I was thinking about putting a 4th gen alty in my car when I woke up this morning.

You may want to check your battery and electrical lines while you are at it. Something is causing your alternator to fail or you could just have bad luck.

 

you can get a reman'd one at most auto parts store for around $100....

 

So are you going to just keep replacing them or are you going to find out what the problem is?

The alt you put in from Nissan should have a warranty of at least a year...
