Could it be alternator?

What are the signs of a failing alternator, just today my car is acting funny with a groan sound from the passenger wheel side.

I know it isn't the bearing, it gets louder at high speeds when I take my left of the accleartor and have the vehicle cruise?

When I turn my lights on, I can hardly read the clock, looks like the voltage dips considerably.

The voltage is constant at 14V.

you arent being very clear here

you say you know it isnt the wheel bearing, but also say that it get louder at high speeds? actually that whole sentence needs new grammar to it.

so is the problem both this extra noise, and the dimming of interior lighting when you turn on the car's headlights?

Ok, well let me rephrase.

The dimming of the clock display has been there for quite sometime, though never have faced any alternator related issues, like stalling, draining of battery, headlights turning off on their own etc.

The sound that comes from the passenge side is new and it comes and goes. I just drove back from dinner and it was fine, but in the afternoon it was making a funny low pitched groan.

I have checked if there is any play in the wheel, nothing. Will remove the wheel tomorrow and check if anything is binding..
