There is no benfit to using it when its hotter outside than you want it to be inside your car. It is usefull when it's really sunny out and the outside temp is cooler than inside your car. With the windows up the inside of your car can get really warm even with a cooler outside temp. Instead of running the AC (AUTO) you can run Econ and turn the temp down. If it is warm in your car the fan will still adjust in an attempt to reach and maintain the set tempurature. Why use the power and gas robbing AC compressor unless you have to. Save it for those >80 degree days.

I use Econ to heat and cool (sunny days cool outside temp).
I use Auto to defrost and cool.
I will occasionaly use Manual mode to direct the air where I want it to go.

Maybe this thread is old but:
There are 3 scenarios (manual - no need to explain):

Scenario I (Summer)
Auto - clima is always on -> cooling(for set temperature) - went speeds are maintained automatically depending how big is difference in temperatures outside vs inside.
Econo - cooling in natural way (clima is off, thus saving gas) BUT went speeds are maintained automatically depending how big is difference in temperatures. If outside temp=inside temp nothing to do.

Scenario II (Winter)
Auto - clima is always on -> not very usable. Since you want inside to be hot clima here only dries air, than through heater you are getting dry hot air - little bit speeds up defrosting.
Econo - (clima is off-saves gas) very usable since it will wait engine to get warm and then blow at full speed once engine maintain working temperature (remember the difference from I Scenario?

Scenario III (Rain)
Auto- clima is always on -> it dries air and defogs windshield inside
Econo - defogs windshield but much slower
(To explain Scenario III - assume 2 layers (windshield outside, windshield inside).
Water/rain is much better conductor than air thus when touches windshield it cools outside layer much better than air. Outside layer transfers that cold to inside layer. Since there is momentarily very big difference in temperature between inside layer and indoor temperature air starts condensate on inside layer. (That is anyway how is fog forming). If you are drying inside air (auto) than no condensation can form

And to direct answer to thread:
Econo mode saves you "trouble" of waiting engine to warm and maintaining the optimal fan speed.

E55AMG2's explaination is very good. Why was this thread dug up?

Old style compressort cycle on and off. Ours is a newer variable compressor that is more efficient and does not click every 5 seconds. It's variable, meaning always engaged.

I was told in the nissan climate control class that the compressor when in auto turns off at 4 degrees celsius outside temp. Never actually checked it out though myself. You can just touch your low A/c line and if it's cold it's engaged

On this topic... How come when I have the fan set on 1-3 bars (out of 4 bars), why is it relatively low volume of air being passed. Its not until I set it on full (4bars) that i actually get a decent amount of air flow?

You have an in cabin air filter that may need to get replaced. They do get pretty dirty.

Radiator Fans Burnt out

i have just lost bothe Fans on my Radiator.

Is it possible that using ECON and setting the temperature , lower than Ambient , could cause fans to Burn out ?
I am wondering why the Rad Fan Fuses didn't blow.

The Fans have 4 wires each. Are they Variable speed?

thanks to nayone who has knowledge of this .

I always use ECON for heated situations in the winter. For the most part when i use ECON i can even hear the vents opening, and if i use it in the summer, i can feel the air being pulled in fromt the outside and ive used it at times where ECON was set lower than the ambiet temp to see what it does and how it feels......IVE DETERMINED I DONT LIKE IT UNLESS its COLD outside. I doubt that would cause a burnout though. im not sure if the wires mean that they are variable speed.

This is simple: ECON = A/C off button

it is the same thing as the A/C off button on a manual climate control.
