Nissan North America, Inc. today announced pricing on its 2002 Maxima flagship sedan, which goes on sale August 2, 2001 at more than 1,100 Nissan retailers nationwide. The new Maxima features an MSRP of $25,449 for the most popular model, an SE equipped with automatic transmission - only $200 higher than a comparable 2001 model - despite an extensive list of exterior, interior and mechanical refinements including a new 255 horsepower* 3.5 liter V6 engine. These enhancements are designed to take Maxima's unique blend of performance and luxury to an even higher level.

Other 2002 models include the Maxima GXE with automatic transmission, which starts at an MSRP of $24,699 and the luxurious GLE with automatic transmission, which starts at an MSRP of $27,099.

That's kind of odd.

Or they knew only enthusiasts would want the manual anyway and knew they could milk us for the extra cash.

This is possible, when BMW released the 6 speed 540, it cost more than the 5 speed automatic version did. Go figure.

HLSD is optional for the 6-spd SE.

If you don't care for it, the 6spd SE will be available
on October 1st.

HLSD becomes available for the 6spd in December, though the
Autoweek article mentioned November I believe.

The 6speed on the 540i E39 cost more than the 5speed automatic because of the gearing that put the V8 in gas guzzler territory. Half of the price you pay for the 6speed option goes towards that tax. Also, the 6speed came with the M-tuned suspension of 17" 3-piece 7spoke rims which upped the price.

On the HP figures, I also looked at the Sentra SE-R SpecV and it now makes 175HP? What happened to 180HP nissan said? I sure hope the Altima will keep its 240HP. Makes me wonder about other Nissan engine HP figures.
