I cannot consistently get a smooth shift when transitioning from 1st to second gear. I usually shift around 3500-4000 RPM and I usually end up kind of lurching just a bit. Kind of like it thunks into gear. Even at lower RPM's I tend to do this. I doubt it is the car, I think it is just me. Is this typical? I don't let completely off the clutch real quick...just ease off and it seems to minimize the effect.

thoughts? I don't generally experience this in transitioning to any other gear.

Could this per chance be the fuel cut issue in the 00/01 5 speed maximas?

Well, I would probably agree that that might be it, but my car was "supposedly" fixed for that, although I can tell very little, if any, difference. I drove my 93 Max today and get a similar reaction...I think this is just me.

You experience seems very familiar to mine. Just had the ECM redone because Check Engine Light came on.

As I stated in http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....ine#post416933

"Used to feel the fuel cutoff (on/off sensation) in stop-and-go traffic and when cruising in any gear at-or-below 2,000 rpm (even doing 50mph on a highway in 5th gear). Also felt I had to be VERY deliberate when shifting to make the shifts smooth. (Never had to do that on any of the 6 other 5 spd cars I've previously owned.)

The car is now a TOTAL joy to drive."

When you take your Maxima into the dealership give them a copy of the TSB on the tranny. Have them replace BOTH TCM'S. They replaced mine and whoa, what a difference. Most dealerships will only replace only 1 that is affected on the TSB

BOTH TCMs? I've never heard of having two TCMs. The only one I know of is the one in the TSB, original 31036-3Y100, then 3Y101, then 3Y160. What is the part # of the hidden second TCM? You're not referring to the solenoids, are you? Please explain, thanks!
