Test Drove 2002 Maxima
I went to a local southern cal Nissan store, called "Glendale Nissan." I drove the 2002 Maxima and I was shocked on its performance. It drove and handled a lot better than my 2000 maxima. Since my buddy is the G.M of the store he let me drive for a while. He was a little ****ed cause I added 43 miles on it. Tell me what you think about 2002 if you already drove it and seen it in person.
Performance = A
Style = B+ (Nissan front grille emblem looks hella nasty)
Handling = A-

I gunned the hell out of it. You absoloutely feel the kick on this car. They were trying to convince me into trading in my 00'GLE for the 02'SE auto w/navigation. I can get it for $600.00 below invoice. I think I will wait for the 03'Max or the soon to be Infiniti G35. What do you guys think?
I drove the 2002 Maxima SE auto. The transmission feels strong and shifts very smooth without hesitation, but its also new, so that really doesn't count. It had very little wheel spin. The sticker price on the SE with navi was $31,000 and some change. Navi cost about $2000. I also seen the GXE, which looks very similar to the other cars because of the 16" alloy wheels. Sticker on that is about $25,000 and some change. I will post the exact prices tomorrow for you guys. If you have more questions let me know so I can post them or if your in Southern Cali, go visit Glendale Nissan.

Sorry but Nissan will not end the flagship. The Maxima will be a 5 series contender. They just didn't have the man power to change both those cars at the same time.
This is a fact that Nissan will still make the Maxima.
From what I understand the SE will be available now, but the 6sp will only be available oct-nov. (probably to run out the stock of 5sp trannys sitting in the factory.)
I am definately waiting for a 6sp and If they are only available in oct-nov I will do one more winter with my 2000 and then move up to a 2002.

That's what I have been waiting to hear
I wanted to know how fast this Generation 5.5 Max is. However, the jury's still out until I see something on the '03 Maxima. But the '02 is tempting enough to trade my 3rd Gen in on.

Actuall no 5spd will be available. Autos only right now till the 6spd comes out...
Actually, it's more like the 6-speed will be available, but the HLSD won't be available until December (I think I saw that in the Nissan PR about the 2002 pricing).
The '02 at Maxus was a 2002 w/6-speed. Anyone there notice that the production date was 3/01?

2003 Maxima?
Are you guys trying to tell me that they are gonna redo the maxima again in 2003? Why would they do that? I've got a y2k and am interested in the 2002 but if they are gonna redo it again and you have some links to some info please let me know!
Thanks,
Paul
Thanks,

What RPM did it shift? Mine shifts around 5900-6000.

I would think that even if the 2002 shifts at 6,100rpms, it still gets past its peak HP, so it will still feel strong. Looking at the sources, the VQ35DE in the Altima and Maxima both make their peak HP at 5,900rpms.

Also what was the sticker price of that SE with Nav? And how did you like the transmission?
