I am looking for the least expensive way to boost the HP for a 2001 Maxima SE, just purchased two weeks ago. I am looking for something under $500.

Approximate Prices:
$370-400: Cattman Y-pipe ~ 10-15whp
$90-150: JWT or Stillen POP Charger cone intake ~ 5-8whp
$200: UR Underdrive Pulley ~ 4-5whp

The Y-pipe is the BEST bang-for-buck mod. The Y-pipe and a JWT cone filter would be the best combo for around $500.

1)PR CAI ~200
2)Y-Pipe ~400
3)UDP ~200

Those three all togather give the most HP boost for a little money(not NOS,or supercharger)

you can even get fine with # 1 and 2

K&N Drop in by itself - $50.00 = 1hp to the wheels
Oscai conversion $3.00 = ~3-5hp to the wheels while moving.

Dat cheap fo' sho'

I assume you mean $30.00 for the OSCAI conversion, PhatGuy.

Uh, you can get 60 HP from a NOS install. Total of about 500 dollars if you install it yourself. That's the BIGGEST bang for the buck.

$30.00??? To cut a piece of plastic and attach a piece of tubing and a coupler? How is it $30.00??

Well I guess it depends on how fancy you wanna get with it? I've seen some crazy looking oscai lately.

Ok, you guys obviously don't know what you're talking about.

Coffee can exhaust tip ($3) - 25 hp
Aftermarket wing taller than the roof ($200) - 35 hp
GT-R badge ($10) - 10 hp
Type R badge ($10) - 50 hp
Huge 30" Stillen or Nismo sticker on hood/quarter panel ($50) - 50 hp
Cutting your springs so you bounce down the road (free) - 20 hp
Putting on 3 pairs of fog/driving lights ($60) - 15 hp
Tinting windows ($200) - 20 hp
And driving around with your windows down bumping rap music (free) - 35 hp

Now, for a total cost of $530 you can have a screaming 11 second 482 hp monster maxima...

Just don't ever take it to the track to verify, trust me on it...

Being that you just purchased the car 2 weeks ago, I would guess it is safe to say you have a few more weeks of warrenty left. NOS would pretty much void your warrenty right out of the starting line. Some dealers are more leaniant sp? about mods than others, so make sure whatever you do to the car can either be re-done back to stock if need be or it's cool with the dealer.

Were do you get your info?
K&nN filter shows a 4 hp gain at the wheel not 1hp.
Turbo magazine dyno tested it on the max they built.

I think this cost more $, but do they have chips and headers for the 5th gen max? I looked in Stillen and don't see it. If they have those, what is cost and HP gain? Thanks.

no chips yet.... as for headers, emax95 is trying out a set for his 4th gen. They fit the 5th gen also. Once his dyno results are in, we will all know a bit more about them....

will headers get rid of our y-pipes too? i just changed mine... and will the headers be good for cali-spec and fed-spec cars?

the headers come with a y-pipe but I think you can bolt on another y-pipe. But one of the problems is emissions. You will need to move the rear O2 sensors to behind the main cat if you have cali spec emissions....

Nope 1hp gain to the wheels. Someone dynoed their car with it and that is all it showed. If you got a dyno showing a 4hp gain that would be nice to see?

I would even doubt the 1 Hp to the wheels. It is just a air filter, yes it does pass air though easier, but not so much more for any major improvements. Now, I can see how folks can get 4-5 Hp out of them though, if you have a heavily modded car with a stock filter, and you switch to a KN filter, yes you will see some gain, as far as seeing 1 HP gain on a dyno is a little sketchy. Like these ads for catback systems, boasting it gives gains of upto 20 HP, uh-huh, sure it does. This is not a flame, just stating my opinion on them, and I do have one and I beleive it helps.
