Tranny Fluid Advice

Hey Guys,
I was wondering how many people are using Redline Tranny Fluid for thir auto tanny? And is there only one type of Redline tranny fluid. I mean do they carry Dexron III? Cuz the shop that I went to only had Dexron II. And suggestions? Redline of Valoline?

Dextron III is just a type of auto tranny fluid. hope you know that already. Valvoline makes it, Texaco, mobil, I would say everyone makes it. I would say check Redline's website to see what they have for Dextron III equivalent.

Redline does have a Dextron III equivalent, it's called Redline D4 ATF (in fact as the name suggests it meets Dextron IV requirements). That is the recommend redline transmission oil for automatic Maximas. The normal Redline ATF is Dextron IIE equivalent, which is okay for Maximas according to the owners manual, but why not go for Dextron III or better since the price is almost the same.

I had a transmission shop service my auto with normal fluid,
and I had them add a bottle of Lube Guard. The difference was very noticable. It shifted much smoother. Cost about $16. I also added their stuff for power steering and again notice less effort in steering and a smoother feel.
It prolongs the life (of trannys, etc.) and most mechanics swear by it.
It's not snake oil like a lot of products.

But to be fair its like the conventional/synthetic oil agument, some swear by it some swear against it and there is little proof out there either way.
My advice stay away from additives. Most mechanics I talk to swear against it!

A very good, honest transmission shop that I use loves Lubegard. He says it's the best stuff out there, and stocks both varieties (red bottle and black bottle). He uses the black bottle formula for cars that require HFM (highly friction modified) fluid. According to the Lubegard website, Nissanmatic "D" fluid is HFM, meaning if you use Dexron you need to add a black bottle to convert the fluid. Important to remember, do not overuse the HFM additives! If you use Nissanmatic D, just use the red bottle. If you want to use more than one bottle of lubegard, you can use one black and the rest red. The newer Nissans call for Nissanmatic D, but the older ones such as my J30 do not call for it, so I can only use the red bottle.
