This dude at the parts dept. of my Nissan dealer said that doing most of these mods voids the warranty, like if you install an intake it will cause the "check engine" light to come on, and that will void the warranty.

Now, I read under the FAQ that unless it causes specific problems, mods don't void the warranty. Who on these forums has had warranty trouble because of their mods??

thanks

Anything that changes the mechanics of the car will void
the warranty at least for that "area" of the car. Better
be ready if your going to do any mods.

if the mod did not cause the problem you are seeking service for, warranty service can not be denied.

But if you install a Stillen Intake, You are drilling a hole in the car, essentially. Messing around with everything causes you to have a check engine light, and the dealer sees the check engine light as a problem, which is caused by the intake. Therefore, the intake voids the warranty.

Same thing with installing a Y-pipe, it can cause the check engine light to come on... etc. not to mention it's slightly illegal at that.

Be carefull, there are some people on this board who are gonna blast you for posting this (names left out to protect the innocent)!

Mod's will not void your warranty unless they can specifically prove that that mod caused the problem. I.E. intake installed and say your MAF went bad ... Nissan has to prove that the intake caused your MAF to be defective.

Don't let this go to your head though. I have said many times that Nissan is going to give you hell over those mods and make you jump through enough hoops to make you change your name to bobo the dancing bear! Your service will eventually get done, but don't expect the service dept to kiss your a** if you have mods.

Someone will tell you to go to another dealer, and those people are the ones with several close to them. The nearest dealer to me is 75 miles away, so I have to settle for the one I have here.
