My Rotors got machined...
#1
Remember me? I have been off the board for a while now.
Anything new? Any new mods, problems, concerns...?
I just had my 24,000 mile service. I needed my rotors machined down. I think Nissan should look into why their rotors have a propensity to warping.
I remember hearing something about when your rotors are machined, they are more likely to get warped again and that the only solution is new rotors. Is this true?

I’ve had some experience with this for my old 3rd generation Maxima. Machining down your rotors a few times shouldn’t do any harm. But after repeated machining, where they get too thin (I don’t happen to know the minimum thickness Nissan recommends), they should be replaced. Of course, rotors that are too thin are more subject to warping.
But occasional hard braking in itself shouldn’t warp your rotors. But hard braking while they’re hot, or having them suddenly subjected to water while they’re hot could easily cause warping, sometimes just on one wheel. Constant hard braking, of course, will certainly heat them up.
