I have a friend who just bought a 2001 SE automatic and he is really in love with the car. I love it too. but he can't really be objective about it. I drove a friend's Buick Regal GS (supercharged to 7.5 psi) to work and we started talking. I just want to ask two questions and then I will be off your forum, though I will browse to see your responses:

from a standstill, which car would win in acceleration...say to 60 or 80, I say the Regal because of the enormous torque. the regal is electronically limited to 108 so top end is moot.

what is the 0-60 for the automatic SE?

I browse this forum alot, even though I do not own a maxima. My friend's owning one has sparked my interest in it. I have strongly urged him to come here and join this community. As a miata owner I am a member of four miata forums. He should be around sometime real soon. this is an awesome site guys!! I know you are very proud of it. thank you for your time.

Hey Nut,

Welcome aboard ... we do try our best on this site .. sometimes it gets very 'interesting' though!

I think the GS would probably take the 2001 SE automagic ... from what I remember in previous posts .. if the GS is the same platform as the GTP ... it'll even give 5 speeds a run for the money ... there was a lot of smack talk a couple months back when a whole bunch of GTP yahoo's came on board ... but it's all good!

C u round!

The GS will walk on him. The only time the Maxima will get ahead is after 108mph, when the GS cuts out.

The 5 speed 5th gens run 6.6-7.0 in the 0-60 and 14.8-15.2 in the 1/4s (NOT including the BRAND NEW 2002 Maxima with the 255 HP engine). The automagics will run 7.4-7.9 seconds 0-60 and 15.3-16.0 seconds in the 1/4.

If it looks like there's ANY WAY the Maxima can keep up with the Regal GS (and based upon what I've read in this thread, there isn't), I'll let my son drive one, and I'll drive the other, since my wife drives a 1998 Regal GS, and we'll see, head-to-head (even though my GLE's an automagic).

On the other hand, if it WOULD be a waste of time, I;ll keep my son from behind the wheel of my Maxima!

Oh there are ways to make the Maxima faster than a GS

But....you overlooked one important fact...

I don't know anyone who would buy a buick over a maxima... even if it is faster, I think the maxima is a much better value and is better looking as well. Although, those ADs with Tiger Woods in the drivers seat of a buick.... makes them awfully appealing to the younger generations... riiiiiiiiiight.

It's called preference. Thats what makes us who we are, individuals.

thanks guys! you answered the questions. our discussion ended with me asking him how he felt about his maxima vs. his former v6 accord coupe. His response:

"the honda was all about looking good. the maxima ain't trying to take no ****! It's time to play. that's the way I describe the maxima vs. the accord. the only thing I miss about the accord are the duals."

Now I am waiting for my turbo to come in for my miata. I might even encounter one of you guys. anyhoo, enjoy your board, and drive safe but still continue to teach these punks out there a lesson or two

thanks for the conversation.
