This maybe a stupid question, but what are the benefits of synthetic oils?
And can you really drive twice the miles before you change the oil?

Not so sure...will find an Answer!!

I know a retired scientist that can give me that answer. He was employed by Amoco Oil for 10 years before hanging it up. I was always amazed that he would change his oil so soon, all the time, so I inquired. He told me that oil viscosity levels actually breaks down around 1,200 to 1,500 miles, depending on the climate and conditions of your environment. So, it really doesn't benefit you anymore after that time...so why keep it in, change it. But the manufacturers will tell you anywhere from 3,000 to 7,500. He then got over my head with this techno jargon about how the factories screw the public around on false info concerning engine components and their life span. To this day, he has a 1973 Mercedes C280 with over 500,000 miles on it, ON THE SAME DAMM ENGINE!!.....As a conclusion peoples opinions will vary on this subject!! Synthetic or not, I use MOBIL, PENSOIL and have now changed to AMSOIL now...I change oil and filter every 2,000 miles based on my old friends advice and results!! Once again, opinions and results will vary...ENJOY THE RIDE.
