What sway-bar is better for the 5th gen, the Addco or Stillen. The Stillen looks better but I can't find any specs on the bars to judge the actual performance of them.

I think that Regime may have been looking for some actual bar dimensions. I know that I am.

A-R bar stiffness is 4th power function of bar diameter, so a little increase goes a long way.

Addco RSB Group Deal

There are many people that like the Addco bar here on maxima.org. I put together a group deal for $118.64 shipped. This is a one time thing. If interested, check the complete details in the group deal forum. BTW, the Addco bar is 7/8".

Thanks For the info guys, is there anyone here that knows how thick the Stillen bar is.
7/8" seems very small for a 4k lb car, I would be expecting 1.2"-1.8" for the weight, but then again I usually have dealt with rear-wheel drive cars in the past. Any advice on that^?

Ummmm . . . I'd say that 7/8" is at least in the ballpark for a rear bar, especially with whatever size is stock up front. The Max isn't really that heavy unless you're considering gross weight. Net for a Max is probably more like 3200 depending on equipment.

As other points of reference, the Malibu in my sig (about 3450# net) has the 22mm (about 7/8") rear bar as part of the F41 sport suspension package. And the heavier OE F-body rear bars are between 21mm and 24mm.

The reason why the rear bar is not that thick is because RWD cars have 60%(est) of the weight in front. Therefore a super thick RSB is not needed. I think most aftermarket makers don't want to make the car oversteer much(if at all) so they don't go overboard on the stiffness.

Can't report on the Stillen (although many others have, positively) but the Addco bar (from Cattman) really works great. Not commonly known, it is adjustable but not the way the Stillen is as the Addco's also use bushings that clamp to the axle beam, taking away use of the axle as a jack point. The Stillen can be adjusted away from the center of the axle.

Also... it hard to compare the performance of these sway bars from the diameter alone. Most bars attach to both the suspension and the chassis to translate chassis roll to the opposite wheel. These bars do not attach to the chassis at all. Since the Addco bar attaches to the beam and the Stillen doesn't, I wonder how that attachment affects anti-sway performance, assuming diameter is the same.

And, finally, it not exactly correct to say the Maxima's rear suspension has no anti-sway bar... it does, it is built in to the way the multi-link torsion beam design works (see http://www.se-r.net/about/g20/scc/oct98/tb.html for a good article on the G20 beam, like the Maxima's). The Stillen and Addco units supplement the performance of the existing anti-sway bar.

And from all accounts, very well indeed!
