Has anyone looked into buying the new maxima in Canada. I was reading on a Pathfinder forum that almost 100 people have bought their pathfinders in Canada saving $4,000-5,000.
Seems like it would be worth the ride.

I've been mentioning this for about 4 months now that new cars are generally cheaper in Canada. The 2K2 Max SE with leather fully loaded "list price":

Auto: $37,900CDN = ~$24,500US (current exchange rates)
6spd: $36,900 = ~$23,900US

You could probably knock off around $1k on each one if you work a deal.

GST of 7% will have to be paid no matter what province you buy it in. They key is to purchase the car in a province that does not have provincial sales tax or the tax is very low. New cars seems to be much cheaper in Canada than the USA but I notice OEM parts are much cheaper in the USA than in Canada. The Nissan warranty is good in North America as well from what I understand.

Wow! Great info dude, I wonder if I whould have to pay another 7% sales tax once I register it in my state? If that was true I whould be getting 14% sales tax and that whould suck! I whould love to learn more about doing this, is there any links on info that you know about? Thanks dude.

It's even cheaper then you though F.G., a loaded 6spd comes out to $23,589!!! . I was wondering where you got the 2002 price/option sheet in Canada? I checked out nissancanada.com and they still have the 2K1's on there. I wonder if the price you said includes the GPS too? I noticed on the 2K1's you get a engine block heater,VLSD and full size spair, sweeet!

no gps

I got a price of $37,859 or so for the SE auto with leather. Don't believe you can get GPS in Canada.

Buddy, here in Ontario we pay 15% sales tax on cars and anything in general. That's why the cars seem cheap at their prices, once you add 15% it gets expensive..real expensive.

7% GST and 8% PST (provincial sales tax) = 15% tax in total. And is applied to almost everything. Houses, cars, items from WalMart, groceries, etc..

Say a Maxima is $36K CDN, with tax it comes to $41.4K CDN, that's more than $5K in taxes.

Do you have to pay those crazy taxes right when you buy the car or is it when you register it? I wonder if the taxes are different for a touris like me? Thanks BTW what does GST tax stabd for and all?

I just researched this whole tax issue and I found out that ALL taxes are fully refunadable to US residents! Woo hoo!
For people interested check out this great site, http://www.canadasalestaxrefunds.com/

For people interested in all the deatails of importing the car check out this site, http://www.customs.ustreas.gov/imp-e...formal/car.htm .

All in all when I buy my new max in Canada I will pay approx. $for a turf tax and thats it! Well R.I. 7% sales tax too . So it looks like a fully loaded 2002 6spd max will cost me $23,589+$250 turf. Not a bad deal at all, thats thousands less then a base 02 max in the states. I should be able to knock off another $1K after a little bit of haggling. So when it's all said and done it will be a tad under 25K US. Not bad for a 12 hour ride total.

He is correct, all taxes is refundable.
The very nice man who organizes this on the pathfinder website sent me the information, he has made a nice little packet on all the steps you must follow.

All taxes is refunded by mail!!!!!

He even gave me the name of the Salesman and dealership that they have all gone through, so we should get a good deal. Also most of the options are standard in Canada for the lower price.

I will try and find the link to the pathfinder website, as I probably shouldn't email the packet to anyone without his permission.

I am in New Hampshire so it is worth it, but will wait until the 6 speed comes out. Anyone know if it will come out earlier in Canada then the US?

A lot of people have had that done. I hear it only costs a few hundred to change it out.

Hey, I'm that "Jon". Thanks for the nice words. I've posted here before about going to Canada to save, but not recently. Depending on the model you can save thousands, like maybe $5000 over the best prices here in the US. And best of all, it's really easy. Like the other people here said, just email me. After I did it myself I made up an info sheet. I know of over 50 people who have done it since. We've also been able to find a few dealers who will sell at a fixed price just over their cost.

I did talk with a dealer the other day and it appears that the 6spd delay is up there too, but I didn't as for more details.

Email me and I'll be glad to help.

It'd be more attractive if I could get a 2002 Max SE without leather, but with the sunroof in Canada. I'm not sure I want the leather.
