I seem to remember a 4 hp gain, but the owner also had the y-pipe change.
The filter alone probably has neglegable hp gains by itself, but with other breathing mods will make a difference over stock.
I to went with the panel K&N, mainly because it is far better than stock and you only buy it once.

the K&N panel filter is very efficient filter. when they(the turbo magazine) tested their filter, they did a run with the stock filter, the K&N, and open-box.
it was like 3-4 hp jump in the 'top' end when the K&N was used. when they took the filter out completely and ran the car, the difference was only like less than a horsepower..which means, the K&N is darn good!!

I remember you telling to get it from Pepboys, but i went to the one in Laurel and all their K&N filters were way too large to fit. Plus no guides or nothing to say which one fits where. The store is kinda ghetto considering where it is also.

I called the Dealer's parts department and asked them what the part number was for the stock air filter for my Maxima. Then I went to the K&N website http://www.knfilters.com and did the cross reference thing. Cross reference is at http://www.knfilters.com/crossref.htm
Next I called all over town and found a K&N filter in stock at a fair price. I run them in all my cars. Even the minivan. Made a big difference in it.
