When racing is wrong...
I just wanted to vent a little bit. I keep reading all of these stories about people racing their fine Maximas against other cars. But what kind of scares me is who are involved in these races. Don't get me wrong. I have nothing against street racing; I just think too many people are doing it in the wrong places.
For example, in rush hour traffic? Give me a break. Who the heck wants to race a car while dodging and weaving around moms in their mini vans? And I think it is totally lame to race against another guy who has their wife/girlfriend with them. First, you don't want to endanger the girl's life because you want to prove a point. Second, the added weight of the extra passenger is unfair. And third, I have never seen a girl who likes being driven 90+ mph down a street against another car. Every girl I have ever seen or met is totally terrified of it.
I just wanted to make it know that you really need to think before you decide to race someone. I would rather hurt my ego than kill someone because they decided to pull out in front of me while I am driving fast. Thanks for reading.
P.S. The reason I wrote this is because I saw three cars (Sentra, Escort, Civic) racing each other through traffic. They almost hit one pedestrian and caused two accidents.

Normally, I find something that I do not agree with anything that anyone says. In this case I agree with all of your points. I am just as guilty as the next person for being irrespondsible in my car. Only afterwards do I realize what I could have done to someone else or myself. I have put ex-girlfriends through some pretty stupid ****. I love driving and I love lining up against cars that I think I have a chance with and some that I know I don't, just to see what they can. I will shut up now, but you bring up a very relevant and valid point. There is a time and a place for everything. I agree that I would rather get my ego hurt than kill someone and have to deal with that for the rest of my life, just because I wanted to win.
Agreed
Easier said than done in the heat of the moment though ... thinking back there have been 3 times where i was honestly probably about 1/8 of a second from doing a headon above 100 or worse ... scares the sh.t outta me ... the sad thing is i'll probably do it again because i'm too damn testosterony ... what i need is to find a place where i can race on a real amateur circuit to just get it out of my system every day.
We can help.
I know the dangers of street racing have been expressed many times. And I agree it will continue anyway. But what bothers me is the implicit approval other forum members give to this stupid and dangerous activity. Look at the responses to such posts. Responses like "nice kill, or "congrats" are common. We could do without such lame responses that only encourage more juvenile street racing.
As a parallel, what if someone posted a story about playing Russian roulette with their father's 38 revolver? The post would be like: "Well I spun first but just got a click. Lucky me. Then my friend took his turn and blew his brains out. So I won!" Would you respond to that post with a "nice kill" or "congrats"?
If it was my call, I would ban all posts that brag about street racing. Even this small gesture of disapproval could save a life someday. But I'm a realist and know such a proposal would go nowhere. In the meantime, I urge all responsible forum members to display no support for this inappropriate activity.
