Nissan always has huge sales at the end of the year anyhow. Plus I've learned that your resale sucks something fierce when you buy next year this year...

CanadaRocks is right about importing some vehicles INTO Canada. Very hard. Canada is much stricter about lighting (DRL specifications) and bumper strength. You also have to pay air-conditioning and fuel comsumption taxes.

But it's amazingly easy to bring a Canadian Max to the US. No changes needed. The biggest problem I had was figuring out how to spend the $4000 I saved. My wife helped me there...

EMAX must be smoking some good stuff.
First off, who is going to repay the 7% sales tax, the tooth ferry?

Also, in states with sales tax they will get you when you return with your out of state (or country)car and have to license it.

In WA state, people go to Oregon to avoid the WA sales tax, only to be charged it when they lic. the car in WA plus a fine for trying to screw the state.

No free lunches here boys!

Mike,
I think you misunderstand this whole thing. No one here is trying to avoid paying taxes. When you buy a vehicle in Canada you will still pay your regular state tax when you register it and get your plates (just like if you bought it down the street).

You buy in Canada because the PRICES ARE LOWER. Like $4000 lower!!

And yes that "tooth fairy" is named the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency. You pay the 7% sales tax at the dealer. When you get home you send in a form and they send you back the 7%. They really do. Wanna see a copy of the check they sent me?

All in all, there is a free lunch here. Sounds too good to be true, but it works (and is damn easy to do)! I assume you live in WA. I know about 10 people from WA who've gone to Vancouver to buy a Nissan or Infiniti.

Guys,
I'm getting tons of requests for info on buying from Canada. Doesn't bother me at all - glad to help out. But let me know where you live or where you'd want to go to buy. The info varies slightly because of different sales taxes in different provinces. Toronto and Vancouver still have the best prices.

And I heard back from a couple people about SE 6spds. With just about every option available they are about $23,400. Dealers are taking orders for January.

Invoicing info is all over the internet. Two big things to keep in mind. The dealers have whats called hold back which they get the car below invoice to covers their costs for the sale. The other is that most of the money on the sale is made with the financing and the extras (warrantys, LoJack, Scotchguard..etc.)

SO KNOW THE HOLDBACK!!!!!

Jon and EMAX are correct -- when you pay Canadian provincial sales tax (8% in ON) and/or the Canadian Goods and Services Tax (7%), you can apply for a tax refund to the province and/or federal government. I'm sure the details are at http://www.ccra-adrc.gc.ca/.

I believe the reason the cars are "cheaper" is just the exchange rate. First of all, Maximas are made in Japan, so they are shipped from Japan to B.C. They don't go through the U.S., so you don't get the ugly Cdn-US exchange rate (ugly from my standpoint). Think about the math: $1 U.S. is about $1.6 Cdn. So take the Maxima GLE -- total cash price in Canadian dollars BEFORE taxes with everything included is no more than $36,000. In U.S. dollars, that's $22,500 (if my math is correct).
