Anyone know if the front grille opening on the 2K2 Maxima is the same size and dimensions as the 2K\2K1 Maxima? If it is, could you buy the 2K\2K1 grille and install it on the 2K2? That front grille is the only problem I have with the new Maxima, besides maybe the rear lights.

I think most people agree that the new grille is strange looking, to put it nicely. The over-sized emblem and the large silver bars are tacky to me. The lower valence area is also blocky looking, kind of like the Stillen Maxima front valance that looks like the Subaru WRX front. That's pretty much the only thing about the 2K2 that I don't like. Hopefully they used better paint on this year model. If I could swap out the front grille on the 2K2 with one from the 2K/2K1, I'd buy the 2K2 without hesitation.

I hate the two silver bars across the grill and I hate the larger opening on the lower valence. I prefer the smoked cover tailights on my 2001 SE over the clear cover taillights on the 2002. I do like the 2002 HID's though. Remember that you will have to look at the car everyday.

Oh yeah, forgot about the taillights. The smoked taillights on my 2K SE look better than the clears on the 2K2. Another swap I'd have to make.

2000/2001 Front Grille

You'd need to purchase the entire 2000/2001 front bumper if you wanted to swap it out with the 2002, because the grille and bumper are all one piece, regardless of what some people might think. Yes, there are screws located on the inside of the grille, but they only remove the grille surrounding trim (metallic grey on the SE, maybe chrome on the GXE/GLE). I know from 1st-hand experience, cuz:

1. I was in a minor accident a while back, which cracked the grille. They had to replace the entire bumper, because they're attached.
2. I had to cut out the main grille later on to install the Street Scene Equipment Speed Grille.

If you're not convinced, just remove the screws & you'll see what I'm talkin about. It was made to "look" like the grille is separate, with the segments & crossbeams. Peace.

Re: 2000/2001 Front Grille

Well, that makes it twice as hard to swap. Also, you'd get the funky looking lower front valance, which I also don't like. Oh well, guess I'll stick with my 2K. Thanks for the info.

I have the "smoked" tail lights on my 20th AE that I would gladly trade you. We could save each other some bucks. I would be willing to put my car out for a couple of days so that I could send you mine and you send your back. Although for this to work we would need reliable overnight service.(of wich I would be willing to pay for because it's FREE!!) Let me know!

Reminds me of what Acura did with the 2k2 TL.

I like the 2k2 TL, looks much better and bolder than the previous design. The 2k2 Maxima's grille makes the front end look all bubbly and round like a jelly bean.

Hehe, you are mistaken, my son. I have the 2K Maxima SE with the smoked taillights. I was just pondering trading in for the 2K2, but I don't like the front grille\valance and I don't like the clear taillights. I'm sure you can find someone on this board who'd gladly swap with you.

Now we have a bubble grille to go with our bubble butt.
