hey,
this doesn't really have anything to do with your question, but i think you should go with the 19's. i know money might hinder you, but i think going from the SE 17s to 18's isn't a noticeable difference in size.

i don't know if you've seen these pictures yet, but i took them comparing my SE to another maxima that's been lowered on eibachs, has the stilln kit, and has 18's. when i pulled my car up next to his to compare the height, people started commenting that the rims on the modded max were too small. check the pictures out.

http://pegasus.cc.ucf.edu/~vs58993/index3b9273c70.htm

this is just my opinion, take it for what it's worth. later.

Ive looked at dronell wheels extensively and simply put, if you have to ask how much forget about it. Crazy money. The m10 is over 800 each for 19's. I would gather the rims you like in chrome are close to 900 each. Check out www.aktusa.com and look at the dronell wheels and the d power (cheaper dronell's). Ive talked to akt directly about many of these rims so ill gladly answer any questions i can about them.

P.S. Ive got 19 inch rubber in my basement but havent decided on a rim yet but the d power d06 or dronell type 5 a re two im considering.

go with at least 18s in my opinion.. you have a 2 inch drop and with 19s.. boy your ride is going to be harsh..... if i were you, i'd go with 17s, but since you want 19s, i dont wanna hold you back that much. try 18s.. but this is all my opinion.

Skip the 18's, I did that,... in fact ive got 18's for sale, just run your 19s in the late spring and summer and stockers for crappy weather. If weather is a factor where you live.

weather is not a factor for me. ride quality and handling is.. 17s is good enough and the best combo for me between ride and handling.. 18s, 19s, start to get heavy and slow down car and not nessarily handle better. he has a 2 inch drop, and with 19s.. dang.. i dont know about the ride quality about that. i have heard 2 inch drops and progress springs will give a pretty stiff ride.

Dronell wheels are nice...800 bucks for a nice 19" isn't bad...thats what good 19"s and 20"s cost. If you where to get them the I looks would look nice...just one thing...it say's the only fit bmw or anything with a 5x114...we have a 5x114.3. Also 19"s shoun't ride bad if youve got good tires and good suspension setup. Mine rides great.

They are too lazy to put the .3 in. Ive talked to akt and all three dealers listed on their site and these wheels fit. I dont think any vehicle out there has a 5x114. BMW are 5x120. Keep in mind 5x114.3 is also 5x4.5 inches. As for weight the 19 inch d power d06 wheel will be 23lbs max i was told. If you want really light the m10 in a 19 inch is less than 18 lbs.

If you guys really like the Dronell line then I'll do a group deal on them. For 19's they would be around $650-$750 per wheel depending on quanity and finish. Email me for serious inquires. cobymoby@mindspring.com

hey its actually not that expensive to jump from 18 to 19 when you are talking about wheels
but take a look at the tires
it will scare you
first of all
the prices of tires for 19 's are far more expensive
and secondly, those tires will only last you for 1 season, so after every winter, you ll have chip out for than a grand just for tires
think about it.....
that is the only thing that held me back from the 19's

Stupid question:

why would 19's wear out faster than 18's.

they dont wear out faster than 18
even if you get 18's , i assume that you ll get performance tires and all performance tires wear out fast, so would you wanna spend money on 19 tires every season or 18's???
just my opinion though

Good performance tires will last you 25,000 miles unless you do alot of burnouts and drive on crapy crapy roads that are hard on tires and have an alignment problem. Keep in mind to that performance tires don't grip in snow at all so those with tiny 35 series tires (me included) will need to take off the 19"s in the winter to get grip and traction in snowy places with bad wheather. So performance tires can last 2 seasons or 3 if you really take care of them.

What do you think of your ride quality. Do you still like it and think it is similar to stock or do you think it is a little more harsh than you expected? The progress springs give the best profile on a Max, but if it is a sacrifice in ride quality then it would not be worth it for me.

I don't think all perf tires wear out quicker .. in fact I think they will last longer ... they stick so much better so u don't spin as much as you would with the crappy stock tires that don't stick ...

I think if you guys go 18 or 19 .. u also have to do brakes ... it'll look stupid with our puny stock rotors ... & ugly gray calipers ...

the reason performance tires stick better is because they are softer, and being that they are softer they will wear out faster. it all depends on what the tire is rated though.

Tires will have a wear rating. My p7000 are 220
My new t1s proxes are 180 I think.

The lower the number the quicker they wear out but the better they stick. A good example is the race cars pulling into the pits to get gas and new tires. I cant imagine how sticky they must be.

i was referring to the h, v, z type rating, but your rating makes sense too.

if you ever are at a tire place, to try pressing your nail into the different rated rubbers and you'll see the difference.

The rate at which a tire will wear out is the tread wear rating. 220 is not good. Most passenger tires are around 300-400. A 220 will only last you around 15,000 miles. The speed rating (z, v, h etc) rates how long a tire can go at a rated speed. A z rated tires can go for 149+ mph for a certain sustained period of time (forgot how long).

i guess the two ratings go hand and hand, cause i know that with the z rated tire the rubber is really soft and they wear quick.
