Ways to increase HP and performance?

Need some advice. I have a 5th. gen, only one year old with 28,000 miles ( I know, I drive a lot) and I would like to know of what ways I can increase my HP and performance to my car. Please don't say get a supercharger or change out my cold air intake. I know these already but are there other ways to increase it without costing me an arm and a leg? Thanks all for your help!

The Y-pipe is the best HP for-the-buck, besides NOS.

You don't have to change out the CAI, but you can throw in a K&N Drop In filter cause it's reusable. It has better airflow than stock, and in the long run, if you don't decide to get an aftermarket CAI, then it'll be worth the 40-50 bucks you spent for it. It's good for some HP, though not a lot. I don't think you can get Y-pipe cause you'll end up running into a lot of recon problems. What about changing the exhaust? That'll be good for something. For performance, people say FSTB, although others have said otherwise. I say, save up for rims and tires if I were you, and a drop in filter. Just my 2 cents.

No can do...he can't get it becuase of our (Hawaii's) strict modifying laws. My clear corners are even illegal, and I could get pulled over for them. He might be able to get away with a B pipe, but defintiely not Y pipe. We have a Reconstruction (aka recon)law which is kinda like registering your car, but in this case, you are registering the mods. Just like you get a sticker for you license plate, we have a Recon sticker that goes on the back bumper. If you get pulled over for something, you have to front the papers you got with the approved recon mods, if not, you get to pay a nice ticket. It's really stupid, but just one way for the city to make money. It's so stupid that when you take your car in for recon, you can't have any window stickers on....not even the kinds that the radio stations issue for contests.

Yeah it's pretty stupid. I forgot to mention, that things like FSTB and RSB are okay cause you can't see it and don't make noise. Besides, a lot of cars are coming stock with them. My stock body kit could actually be illegal, cause I put it on after I bought the car. I also believe that CAI is illegal, but so many people have them, I don't think they bother on that one. And I don't think you need recon for rims and tires, but I gotta check up on this one. To drop/lower our cars, we need recon..the bottom of the license plate cannot be lower than 12" above the ground. Coilovers are big time illegal.

I live in Hawaii as well and let me tell you what the people over at the recon station say about there rules: anything that you add to your car, inside or out that is not bone stock that came with the car, is considered illegal if you do not get a recon sticker. Next week I am going to get some 18's put on my max and found out that I have to go get recon sticker for my rims. Also found out that they will check my tint, which is illegal as well, and just for that, they might not pass me. So I take a chance by not putting on a recon sticker if I ever get pulled over. Cops make such a big deal over this and they are just ticket crazy. Luckily I haven't been pulled over yet. All the people in Hawaii are in an uproar over this stupid recon sticker that they have to get and you ask anybody about it and they will tell you that it sucks!! Not sure what the laws are like in other states but over here on this small island, cops just don't like modified cars. They hit you for anything on your car! And yes, even stickers like Maxima.org would be considered illegal if it obstructs your view. On your side window would be about the only place to put it.

Shadou: Wow, strict rules. Do the cops know what to look for though? Unless they know to look under the car, they're not going to see the y/b pipes. Just a thought...

The noise will have them come out of the woodwork.

Shadou - don't forget to take the maxima.org sticker off the window before you go to recon. And with your tint...oh man, garins ballbarins you won't pass. How much is recon for just rims? I think I gotta get one for my kit too then. (sigh) Sucks.

You'd be surprised but yes, the cops know exactly what to look for since they all have to study the recon laws and find out what is illegal and what is not. On one traffic stop, they can write you multiple tickets for tint, rims, drop, stickers, y-pipe,etc. and believe me, they love to ticket. People still take there chances though and modd there car but the first time they get pulled over and then have to pay over $500 in fines, they usually turn their car back to stock. Sucks doesn't it?

Do these cops have a spec sheet on the maxima? Do they use a check sheet and walk around the car? Are these some mechanic cops or what? How about if you buy a Subaru Impreza, they come with a turbo charger. Would they make you take it off or something? Or B.M.W that is pretty low, would they make you lift it and make you put a 10 inch lift kit on it with big 4x4 tires? Now I'm being silly, I better go and chill now.

I've never any cop to pull over a modded maxima before as there are quite a few on this island. The few cops that I do know always say that they usually don't give a second look to the "luxury" cars such as Maximas, BMWs, Lexus, etc. but would pull over any Honda, Toyota, or Teg in a heartbeat. That is, if they have no recon and can visually tell that they have added mods. Most cops already know if it has tint, rims, drop, kit then it's modded and it has to have a recon sticker. If not, then the cops have a field day on your car and they love it. Over here in Hawaii they have a BIG problem with illegal street racing and so far this year, I would say around 40 people have died due to racing illegaly on the streets. So the cops have been out in full force this summer and they will stop you for the slightest mod that you make. They even have roadblocks set up on weekends to just check for your recon sticker and drunk drivers. Talk about crazy! And to top it all off, they are trying to pass a new law that if you get busted racing on the streets, then they will confisicate your car on the spot, plus have to pay heavy fines. Believe me, this has the whole island in an uproar over this! They even got undercover cops who go out mod there cars, then go on the roads and try and race someone. If the other person starts to race, they call ahead to a cop to pull you over. To crazy now in Hawaii!

leave your gas tank to nearly empty, drive it for 5-10 miles then refill, that way your tank will always be almost empty and it'll be light weight .....you know what they say, there is only two way of making a car fast...either inc power or dec weight....

Wow! Definitely sounds like they're out to get people! Good luck modding however you can.
