Those with Nitto 555's (Long)
I have just recently put some Nitto 555's (225/40/18) on my car and I like them a lot. What tire pressure do you folks run your tires. Currently I am running about 42 (50max). The only thing that scared me with the tires is that there is not much of a warning that they going to break loose until it is too late.
Two days after putting the tires on I went to the hwy for some rain testing....I was going around a corner and going 60-70 and lightly pressed the brakes and the rear end came unglued. I have heard of people drifting...but on the hwy at this speed... I about pooped! I found out really fast how to come out of a drift.....hit the gas!!!!
On the stock bridgestones, the front tires would tell you how much it could take....but on these tires the front tires make the decision and hopefully the car and the rear tires are up for the task!
Other than the little scare mentioned above....I love these tires. The have wonderful dry grip and the seem to hydro much less than the RE-92's. The reason I went with this width is because I have owned cars that have wider tires than should be on the car....and it makes it slower....more wheel spin (less weight per mm of rubber) and they have a tendacy to break loose (like the sitaution mentioned above).
These tires are a little more noisy than the stock bridgestones...but it is only apparent at lower speeds.

you know...all the time i've had my Nittos, the only times when i liked my tires were when it actually rained...
when i'm at a track(not drag, but road course tracks)...that's a totally different story...at the track, these tires suck ***!!!!
i guess i'm trying to say that they are good street tires but not good track tires at all....

Hey Moboy, I would think that your tire pressure is too high for street driving, I'd say 32-35lb should be better. At the end it's all depend on the type response you like, wether faster launch or better grip and road handling, as far as I'm concerned I prefer better grip & handling than faster launch, with the Max you can almost always catch-up.

Hey Moboy, I would think that your tire pressure is too high for street driving, I'd say 32-35lb should be better. At the end it's all depend on the type response you like, wether faster launch or better grip and road handling, as far as I'm concerned I prefer better grip & handling than faster launch, with the Max you can almost always catch-up.

Well, of course, everyone has their own opinion. I see some have said they're great in the rain, others said they're terrible in the rain. And keep in mind, these are street tires, not made for track (Although I would expect they can handle any mild auto-x-ing.) I personally have had the 555s on for a few months. They're much better than the Bridgestone's (IMHO) in all conditions. As for road noise, yes, still noisy like the Bridgestone's though. But I'm willing to give up a little noise for a decent tire. And you CAN'T beat the price!
(And for those of you who are saying it right now, yes, we know these tires should NOT be on our rims!)
