I leave mine off unless visibility is poor. As a matter of fact I get irritated by people who have their fog lights on all the time since they shine in my eyes.

deer

I keep them on because they help project to the sides of the road, helping me spot deer.

all the time

I think the ones on the Max are actually "driving" lights. But fogs or driving lights, I leave em on!

I'm thinking about putting some of the Lexus-type amber fog lamps in there.... I think they'd look tight on the Max!

On all the time

No a** hole cops in St. Louis (at least regarding fog lights!), so I leave mine on all the time.

On all the time. Never had a problem when I lived in NYC though (BROOKLYN), probably because there are so many people with their fogs on it would be counter-productive to stop them all.

Peace..

Since mine are rewired....

..(thanks DanNY), I have em on at dusk and then the headlights go on after sundown. No problems with NYC Police here!

Off, now...

I used to always leave my fog lights off, until recently. I was reading an editorial in Roundel (the BMWCCA magazine) that stated that BMW drivers always kept their fog lights off in good weather, unlike less courteous drivers of other marques.

Although the letters that followed indicated that there were BMW drivers all over the USA that kept their fogs on all of the time, it was also clear that having the fog lights on in good weather was considered to be rude to other drivers.

So how hard would it be to take the I30's HID and put them into the max's housing?

I don't know...
i don't think it'll be too hard...we pretty much share all the mechanical parts right?

so if you're able to get a hold of the I30's HID unit, with a little tweak here and there,

it should be *doable*. but again, i'm no mechanic, so just speculating.

I heard that DID bulbs are single filament, that means, low beams only. The I30 has separate high beams which are not HID I think, I'm not sure. But the one filament (low beam) thing is a definite.

Leave all lights on

I leave all my lights on all the time. Because the Max does not have day time running lights, I run all my lights when the sun gets low in the sky. But otherwise, I leave everything on all the time. I don't think the 2k Max lights bother people as much. They are shaped in a way that doesn't scatter too much anyway. I'm planning on getting the Hella Yellow Stars for the fogs. I think the amber look much better. I had the Zenons, but they burned out and for now I'm using Halogens...

Leave the lights on! It's not how well you can see, it's also whether you are seen or not, especially during dusk.

That's just what I think...

Re: Leave all lights on

Once I get front Clear markers (who knows when)
I'm going to change my fogs to amber as well.
i want it too look like PIAA SW, SW blinkers, and blue corners
with yellow fogs
that would look pimp IMO

ON

Some of the colors that Max's come in are pretty hard to distinguish from the color of pavement. They blend in too well therefore I figure, the more lights I have on, the safer I am in terms of being spotted by people who for whatever reason, ie"( age, poor eyesight, inattentive driving) are more likely to hit me.
It's increasing your visibility to all the of the above drivers. Think of that yellow Beetle you can spot from 2 miles away. European studies have demonstrated statistically the safety aspects of brighter, more clearly visible colored cars.

Aside from having mandatory daytime running lights in Canada since 1990, I still keep them in full nightime mode plus fogs during the day, because the daytime running lights mode only keeps the front headlamps on. I like the added protection of rear lights on at all times too.

What I usually do is kill the fogs on well lit roads, and switch them back on when they will actually make a difference.

I leave mine off unless I need them. I always thought that fog (driving) lights burned out quicker than headlamps? I just thought they might last longer if I just use them when they are needed.

Re: all the time

Its actually fog lights.

Driving lights have a long and narrow beam pattern, where the fog light of the same output speard the light wider, but less distance ahead.

Am I making any sense???

I own a 2000 I30t with HIDs. They are b-r-i-g-h-t, and very well focused on the road ahead. The boundary of the beam is very well defined, too. Unfortunately, the foglamps do not seem to make much of a difference. However, when I put on the high-beams, Whoa Nellie!, it's like daylight for over 150 yards in front of me. The only animals I have seen with my brights were those looking over their shoulders as they were running away from the road as fast as they could! I think they were more afraid of being burned and/or blinded than being hit by my car! I have driven up behind a car that turned out to be a cop with my regular headlights and fogs. He immediately flashed his high-beams, which I took to mean, "Shut off your foglights now." Uh, so I did...

question:
if the i30 comes with HID's
does that mean that its not a single filament?
so you can have the high beams on right?

can you use this in the max?
just wondering

my head lights are so freakin dimmed out

and black on the inside because of age, I had to get fog lights just to actually see the road. And in the rain it still doesnt help. Last night I turned off all my lights on the highway, and it didnt maek a difference whether they were on or off. every one elses lights would light up the road for me so I would drive in a diag from some people so I could see the road with some light. It sucks. And from courtesy nissan one head light assembly is $113.00. I kinda dont want to go to the junk yard because it might end up being a waste, so Im looking for brand new ones. One day Ill dish out the money. for them but for now I guess the light fro mthe fog lights will do.

The i30 has separate light assemblies to the inside of both the headlights. I believe those are the brights, but I could be mistaken.
