HELP--Just when I thought it was better

All 5th gens with 5 speed please read this...

It seems that when it's cool out (below 55) and when my engine is cold, it does some really bad surging from 1250 rpm's to about 2500 rpm's. Accelerating in first gear (keeping the accelerator in the same position) through those ranges is like riding bull with a chainsaw in its as*. It seems like the car is in full throttle with someone turning the ignition on and off. Second gear is almost just as bad. If I back off the accelerator (due to the fact that it feels like the engine is gonna explode) it gets even worse. Here's the funny part...as soon as the engine is warmed up it goes away...no more problems.

Anyone else have this problem and if so whats the fix. I've gone to the dealer tooooo many times for TSB's and I'm hoping I can get this fixed with only a few visits. If you know anyone who's had this problem please have them contact me.

Thanks guys,
Paul

I've had cars that are choppy before...this isn't right. My girlfriends head bounces off the headrest every time. Whenever people get in the car they are like WTF is that?

My car is fine in warmer weater, but when it's cold, and my car is cold, shifting is more jerky. Does the fuel cut TSB take care of that?

My ride is somewhat jerky on 1st gear but never on 2nd. Once on 2nd, she's smooth even without warmin' her up.

TSB- Technical Service Bulletin

When Nissan receives numerous complaints about a particular thing. They implement a fix for it, and it's called a TSB.

TSB

Ya, Nissan will issue the TSB, but for some reason the dealer will always act like the TSB doesn't exist. You have to show him the TSB and then they act like this is the first time they have seen it.

Why do they do that????? Dealers always just want to blow the customer off.

Sorry for the rant.....

Actually I just started noticing that, I just chalked it up to not letting it warm up first now that it's getting cold... I have a 2K1 and ya, it was fine after I got to 3rd.

My car slightly jerks (more similar to dropped clutch) when in any gear but low RPMS..example in 5th gear 2000RPM's...but do not have severe experiences like others in 1st gear. What is it?

Check the TSB sticky threads...you have the fuel-cut problem. The TSB is hit and miss. Some people (like me) have seen drastic improvement. Others still have the problem. Good luck!

From all the replies it sounds like the Fuel Cut TSB. I thought that problem only happened to auto's... I'll check out the threads and bring it in for service.

Thanks everyone...

I have the same problem...

and I don't think it's not the fuel cut issue... did it happen when you didn't even let the car warm up at all(meaning... drive it right after you start..), cuz mine does that if I didn't let it warm up when it's really cold outside... my way of solving it... let the car warm up at least for 15-30 sec... I bet you won't have that problem..
I think the jerking is due to the engine not getting enough fuel cuz it's cold... the injector...well.... that's my theory... so just let the car warm up a little b4 you drive!

Yeah it only happens when the engine is cold and when it is cold out. I tried letting it warm up for a minute or so but that doesn't help. How long do I have to wait for a new car to warm up so that it doesn't try to kill itself? I've never had a car do this before...new or old...and I've driven a bunch.

Fuel Cut TSB covered under warranty?

Hey guys....my car is at Nissan right now having the fuel cut TSB performed. The tech was trying to jerk me around and tell me it wasn't covered under warranty...This procedure should be covered, Right? You figure if Nissan is going to send out a fix for something they messed up on, it should be covered....But then again, what do I know...

Thanks for any input

I know exactly what you are talking about. It is kind of a hard jerk. I went to the dealership countless times to try to get it fixed. they reported it and said that I was the only one who had this problem. They test drove it and found nothing. I test drove it with them and nothing happened again. I never got it fixed because it was too much of an inconvenience for me. I never got a rental car and the shuttle took forever. I was late all the time for work.

What I do now, is let the car warm for a minute or two. Then start leaving the house with it pushing itself in first gear. When it is time to actually go, I drive it @2500 RPMs. Mine jerks when I accelerate SLOWLY under 2500 RPMs. I just gave up. I figured that if I avoid it in the morning I should be fine. A girl at work has a Nissan Sentra and she says hers drives horribly in the morning too.

thats not what quite what I meant. With engine @oper temperature, driving on a highway, cruising in 5th gear at 2000RPM (about 60mph) I let the accelerator go for a few seconds, then I slightly press it to speed up, thats when my car jerks. Its a different feeling though than from the 1st gear in the morning. One I have is more like if I disengaged the clutch and then slightly dropped it...

Get the fuel cut TSB done...it completely eliminated the 4ht and 5th gear bucking on the highway...it greatly reduced bucking in 1st-3rd.

Got it done

Well, I just had the fuel cut tsb done on mine...and well...it helped only a little. IMHO, I think that the gas on the maxima's is just really touchy...once my car is warm, it seems to run fine, just have to be steady with the accelerator

Oh, and yes, they did cover it under warranty...that was a big relief...

I will run out and check when my car was made....says on the inside of the driver's side door, right?

Hope you guys are having a great day...It's my birthday so I sure am

my service advisor is a *****. He said I shoul describe him symptoms rather than tell him to get TSB done, its not a recall. Also, he said the car is highly sensitive and if smthg went wrong. My light on the dashboard would've went on...Anyway, at 18K miles, I just didn't have time to mingle with him, I'll bring my car over sometime later. Want to test-drive brand-new 2k1 5 spd, if there's a difference.

my advice

is that let the car warm up for about a min or so.... drive VERY slowly (under 2500rpm) until the engine fully warmup...
that's the only thing I can think of...
