30K Service Questions ....

Hi all,

I'm curious to know what everyone is doing for their 30K service. The manual states that only the air filter needs to be changed other than the normal periodic services(ie. rotate tires, change oil...).

It says that the antifreeze is good for the first 60k and then change every 30k. I believe it's the same for the tranny fluid unless you tow something or consistently put an additional strain on the transmission. What about the brake fluid ? There wasn't any mention of when this should be changed. The fuel filter is maintenance free also.

Amazing that the service dept says the service is going to cost upwards of $400-$450. FOR WHAT ? An oil change, new air filter tire rotation, and washing the damn car ? They are pathetic.

Anyways, I like to hear what you all are doing/suggesting should be done. Thanks.

The dealer will try to throw in all kinds of crap. Ask them to do only what is detailed in your owners manual.

Brake fluid

When the fluid starts to turn a dark color then I think it's time to change the brake fluid...it should always look clear.

That was one of my main reason for buying this car. It really is maintenance free...

Plugs are good for 100,000 miles, not plug wires, timing chains, maintenance free fuel filter, etc...

I figure that you change the trans fluid around 40,000 miles and the belts and radiator fluid around 60,000 miles. The money you save goes into making the car faster.

The coolant cools for that long but the chemicals only prevent rust and corrosion for a year or 2. Change your coolant every other year at most unless you switch to the orange (5yr)coolant. It last longer but I haven't gotten a clear answer if it is OK in our cars.

Tranny Fluid ??

If I had my tranny solenoids replaced (per TSB) would they have to changed the tranny fluid with the solenoids ?

Some shops reuse the drained fluid...don't count on it.
