Big Problem...need Help

OK... my barand new 2k2 max is in the service center (broken)--they don't know what's wrong with it--IF the car stereo place tapped into my electrical system, my electrical warranty is voided on the car--if that's the case and i have to pay to have a bunch of work done, IS IT REASONABLE TO HOLD THE CAR STEREO PLACE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE WORK DONE TO FIX MY CAR?

Please help,
matt

the service center at the dealership is saying that if the car stereo place did tap into my electrical system, then my electrical warranty on the car is voided--does that sound right
thanks

I am not trying to be "quoting the obvious" on this but, did they use/did you pay for a wiring harness? If so, you should be in better shape and not have to worry about that as much.

If they cut wires and told you they did not, its your word against theirs. Look at your receipt, I am sure there is a "we are not responsible for..." clause on there. I have heard you can get around this clause, but it takes a good lawyer.

Then if they used, there should be no problem. If the radio shop tapped, then you are going to have a fight on your hands because why would they have to cut into wires at that point? I wish you the best of luck!

i had the following put in:
Kenwood DVD player with monitor (KVT-910DVD)
2 pairs of MBQuart speakers
Kenwood 2ch amp (bridged)(KAC-929)
Alpine 4ch amp (MRV-F307)
JL audio 15W3-D4 subwoofer
Kenwood center channel (KSC-900CTR)
Kenwood DD/DTS/Pro Logic Processor (KDS-P901)

From this does it sound like they would have to tap into my electrical for any reason?

Actually... the car stereo place (Car Toys)was nice enough to send some technicians to the dealership to show the dealership's technicians exactly what they did--and since then, the manager of Car Toys told me that they had established with the dealership's techs that they did NOT tap into the electrical system of the car...i'll just have to wait and see what the dealership says about that...

If you mean tap into your electrical system as cutting or splicing factory wires, then they are absolutely responsible for your electrical system damage. Any shop worth its salt should have installed those components w/a simple wiring harness and amp kit. The only things that needs power are the DVD player, the signal processor and the amplifiers. The head unit I assume is the only component in your dash, so it should have linked up w/just a wiring harness. The amps and the processor if they are all in the trunk should receive power from a fused cable run directly to the battery. I don't see how this could have happened from a stereo install.

Sorry about your luck.

However, How was your system while it was working? I plan on installing some of the components you did, so I would like to hear your comments on the 910, Center Channel, and P901.

Thanks. I second the "Welcome to the wonderful world of Nissan Service" comment.

Good Luck!

it sounds(sounded) like nothing i had ever heard and i've heard a lot of systems--i'm really into home theatre and i wasn't expecting this to be too comparable but man was i impressed--i think i may need a capacitor though--out the door cost was $5100, Car Toys was extremly helpful with matching prices i found online (even with tax)

Once everything is fixed, please post some pictures of the setup. Thanks.

i will definitely post pics when all is said and done--i talked to the service center and they said that until they can find out exactly what's wrong with it, they won't tell me that the warranty is still in tact

hopefully the dealership paid for your rental. Install shop guys seem to be nice to come out to the car-but their a** is on the line. Might as well keep Nissan's phone # handy if the dealership tries to f*** you over. Good luck, man.
