fstb prob

i got an fstb from courtesy nissan
i had to take off two black metal rings to install it and make it fit. are those rings supposed to bet there?
is it like some kind of protection? or is it just there?

I removed those rings when I installed the FSTB

NO the rings don't do anything, in Stillen's instructions the first step is to remove the nuts and take of the black rings, I however do not have those rings.
