Back from track. Did ok I think...

Well, this is my first time out, so I was pleased. The place was freaking packed, so I only got 7 runs in the entire day. On the bright side, 90% of the cars there were like mine, lightly modded daily driver, and not the horde of supercars I expected. My first two runs were the worst with a 15.44 and 15.41. After this it was like 3 hours before my next run, but I did much better with a 15.38, and a 15.34 shortly thereafter. Then it was another hour before I went again (I think they were doing it by car clubs in groups, so us "loners" got screwed) but I got the best two in at 15.27 and 15.25, followed by a 15.30. Since everyone always has some reasons why they didn't do incredible, here's mine-I still had everything in the car, and didn't drop the pressures at all, cause I didn't personally know anyone with an A/C and didn't want to drive to the nearest gas station with 25psi in my tires. On the subject of my tires is my last excuse-they're the original stock tires with 30.5K miles on them, and it's not like I'm easy on them. My trap speeds were between 89.15mph on the 15.41 run and 90.66mph on the 15.25 run. Besides the things mentioned above, I did all the other normal drag stuff. I torque braked it up to 1100rpms and my manual shifts were all right where I wanted them (just nicking the rev limiter). I think this is an ok start, and I'm hoping that with some new tires and the VB mod (5spd swap still not looking good) I might even see 14's in my poor automagic. Any thoughts?

yea i think you'll break into the 14s with the VB... if not, theres always still a high stall torque converter.. with these two, im 100% positive you'll break into the 14s.

I read off of the MobileTek site that the VB mod would cut off .4 to .6 off a stock 1/4. Seems optimistic, but does anyone know from experience what it'll do?

Decent times...

Let me know when you do the VB mod. I've been looking at getting it done too. But, I don't know anyone that has it now. I'd sure like to feel it first in person.

hey, those are pretty good times..... especially since it was your first time running.... with some practice and a few other preparations, you should be able to shave a little more time off.... how were you launching?

I think my launches were ok. My best 60' was 2.290. I torque braked up to 1100rpms on all of the launches. I've gone a little higher than that before, usually around 15-1600rpms, but my tires spin a little longer than I'd like when I do that now. I "practice" launching and what not when I end up in a race around here (which is like every day anymore), so I think I did that part ok.

Straight 6-I'm originally from NC, but stationed in VA. I haven't even looked around NC for tracks, but aren't there 1/4's in Farmington and Statesville? I'm from Charlotte, so I'm gonna check into the Stateville one when I go back next.

thats a pretty good 60 ft.... especially for an auto... launching is probably the key in most cases. looks like you have that down pretty well

Actually, I was hoping the UDP might help me out a bit more with getting off the line, but I think the JWT and y-pipe are cutting more low-end than the UDP can make up for. I think I can improve on it though with some new tires, since they'll grip a lot better and I can get my rpms back up when I tq brake. I'm thinking on going for a set of Kuhmos for the new tires. From what I've heard they're a pretty decent tire and don't cost a whole hell of a lot. But I'm gonna have to save money somewhere, so the VB, tires, and other goodies might have to wait a bit. no mods for a while...I don't know if I'll be able to take it.

Sorry, would someone mind telling me what torque braking is? Seen it mentioned a lot on the forums, but don't know what it is.

Lauching an auto as in rev in N and then go to D? Is that bad for the transmission?

torque braking = press brake in hard and rev then engine to a given rpm. Hold it there. Floor gas and release brake.

I had though Farmington was a 1/4 mile track also but I went to a big dogs event a couple of weeks back and they were running 1/8ths, the track looks big enough to accomodate a 1/4 mile run but who knows. Statesville isn't too far so I will check it out. I guess it shouldn't matter too much whether you run 1/8ths or 1/4ths since once time can be calculated from the other but I have never run on a 1/4 mile track and that seems to be the most popular distance, at least on the org anyways.

You are now the leader. Previous best was a 15.33 for a NA 5th gen auto Maxima.

Damn, are you serious? I didn't think I did that well, and I figured there were modded automagic that did better than that. You sure? Not that I mind...

There may be faster ET's, but they are not known or shown in this forum. Where in NC are you? I'm going to Durham for Thanksgiving.

I'm from Charlotte, but stationed in Norfolk and live in Virginia Beach. I was gonna go home for thanksgiving, but our new security requirements have put a hole in that weekend. There's a few people on here from the Raliegh-Durham area though.

Straight 6-I might be down there this weekend, and I'm thinking of going to check out Statesville to see what they have. Hopefully it'll be a decent 1/4, but I have the feeling that there's gonna be a lot of the muscle car boys up from Charlotte and Huntersville. Imports are a little too looked down upon around there for my tastes.

I have the whole weekend, so I think I'll give it a shot this weekend. Is there anyone else around there that might wanna go too that you know of? The more of us the better... Besides, if I get my *** kicked, I want it to be by another Maxima, not some cocky **** with an 11-second Trans Am. "Dude, I kicked your ***!" No ****!? Gee, I thought I was gonna take you....

I'm VERY impressed. With a few mods, you should drop into the 14s.

I already have an intake, y-pipe and UDP. There's not a whole lot left, except for tranny mods, which will be next. I'm going to start with the VB mod, and probably get my tranny chip upgraded. Haven't looked into the TCU mod yet, but considering the early shifting is one of the worst parts of the auto, and manually shifting can't be good for the tranny, that seems like the next logical step. I'll see what the VB does first.

JWT could make some money of us! I would buy one in a heartbeat. I would also go for a ECU that would bump the redline up 500 RPM or so.

That's pretty good 60' times. My stock 2k2 automagic did 2.7 on 60 ft. I did launched at 2000 rpm. I finished the 1/4 mile at 15.363 at 89 mph.

How many miles do you have on your car? Also, what temp was it where you were at? I got lucky cause it was only 60 or so. I guess that's one bonus of living in the cold weather...

I already 2400 miles on my 2k2, I know I drive a lot. I just got it about a month ago. I live in AZ and I think the temp that night was between 85 to 90.
