Here's an idea. 4G taillamps, with some minor redesign...
The 5g look so much more aggressive from the front, the sides have a more chiseled, "i'm pissed, leave me alone" look... the rear... well, it's happy to be added to the end of the car.

I'll photoshop a picture soon, but, i think the 4g taillamps just look so much better than the 5g

In my opinion, the rear is 'different'. I think the SE tails look tight, but the all red lamps.....well.....they are ok. Perhaps a slight tweaking of the design would make them to everyone's liking.

I personally like the rear, especially with the spoiler.

Has anyone?

Has anyone taken the stinking badges off the trunk yet? Is it hard? Will the paint be discolored under the badges? The main one I would like to take off is the Nissan one that is mounted in a funny position on the trunk.

I POSTED THIS ON ANOTHER THREAD AS WELL.......DOES ANYONE WANT SE LAMPS....I WILL EXCHANGE MINE FOR THE ALL RED ONES AS LONG AS YOU PAY FOR MY SHIPPING! SE LAMPS LOOK STUPID ON THE WHITE!

I disagree. I like the rear end design. Design is a subjective thing though. It stands out more from all the other cars that have similar carbon copy rear ends. This is the reason it brings out more comments. I hated the A6 rear end at first, but now I like it.

I don't hate the 5th gen rear end, and i especially like the SE's rear end, with the spoiler on.

It looks very tight when the SE rear end is matched with the Super Black or Grey Lustre color.

I like the SEs because they don't have the red around the lights but have smoked/black instead. Also, they don't have the chrome emblems (Maxima and SE) but have the smoked/ black. I may be biased but I like the black car the best - gives a consistent look. I've grown to like the contrast of the black tail lights of the SE on the lighter (pearl and mist esp) colors as well.

The entire view from the back could look a little sportier. Right now it has a "squareness" that could be changed. Also, this is easy to fix but, wider tires would make the view from behind better (more aggressive).

Aside from that, I've come to prefer the look of the 5th G rear-end to that of the 4th. I'm sure someone could photoshop the 4ths to the 5th for kicks.

IMO, the side view of this car with 17s makes the car. Not surprisingly, the black SE takes alot of its cues from the Lexus GS - which is a beautiful car. If you see black in each from the side it's clear what Nissan did...

Doesn't look like "we all agree", now does it?

I personally spend more time driving the car, not looking at the rear end.

What I *really* think we all agree on is that the 5th gen Max rear end needs a multi-link suspension, instead of the solid axle design!

I've heard the next gen (6th gen) max will get rid of the rear axle and use independent rear suspension.

But what's the difference between the 2 ? would independent rear suspension provide better handling?

To remove the badges, get some dental floss or fishing line and use that to gently cut through the adhesive backing between the trunk and the badge. Pull gently while pushing the line through. Once the badge is removed, it will leave some adhesive on the paint. Use your fingernails to remove as much as you can without scratching the paint. You can use a cleaner like Goo Gone or Afta to remove whats left. Then, you want to clean the area well with car soap and follow it up with a wax. Should be nice and clean after that!

As for the tail lamps, several people have discussed getting the SE tail lamps, but no one was willing to trade their SE tails until now. If you are willing to trade, I am sure you will find a binch of people.

Actually, I meant to write independent rear suspension. I was reading some specs on another car earlier that mentioned "multi-link" rear suspension, and it must've stuck in my head!

I'm not exactly sure what the differences are, but I would guess independent is better than multi-link.

I may be wrong, but...

I thought someone had already de-badged his Maxima. My understanding was that the Maxima and SE (or GLE) badges could be removed easily, but that the Nissan badge (which, IMHO, is the only ugly one on a dark car) leaves 2 holes to be filled in.

MEEEE>>... i debadged all of the badges. i filled in the hole with bondo and painted it with factory touch up paint. u can still see it, but imo looks darn better than the ugly badge. all are easy to get off. just need some elbow grease. oh use wd40 to get rid of the remaining 3m adhesive material. use fishing line. dental floss snapss too much... here' show you might wanna go about debadging your car..

move the fishing line in a saw like motioin also tugging on it.
