What's this worth? Decisions....

3 cars to choose from
1. Acura TLS
2. 2k2 Max (auto)
3. 2k1 Max (auto, new on dealer lot)

Ok, I like the TLS but it's a bit on the pricey side. I also like the 2k2 but the wife wants an automatic. Courtesy Nissan has a new 2k1 on the lot and since the wife won't get a 2k2 6spd, I figure I'd try and work a deal on the 2k1. Here's the details: Fully loaded 2k1 auto, leather, sunroof, bose....Stickered at $29,500. Base price is ~$24.5k. What price should I shoot for?
If I can't get it CHEAP, I'll look at a 2k2. But if it's only $2,000 less than a TLS, I'd be more inclined to go Acura. Ideas?

Honestly, you should get the TL.

Any reasons? I haven't driven either one but the TL does look more "put together" just by looking at body seams and interior. But, if I could get the 2k1 for $24k, is the TL-s worth the extra $7k?

I think...

the TL is a better car. For me, the max was a better value (and I liked the max interior alot more).

TL bore the crap out of me, they are dime a dozen and bland, but a better car in most ways. if you can get past the styling putting you asleep, go for the TL. 7K more? dunno.. I think I'd pay 7K not to have to deal with Nissan service again. Which reminds me, I have to call them today.. they really messed up our pathfinder doing a simple pulley replacement.

Yes it is.

I'll yield to the consensus that the 5th gen is more consistently assembled and has a notch better quality than the 4th gen, but my dad's 99 TL is so well put together that I believe it to be worth a good 10k more in "real world" value than any current Maxima (except the 3rd gens of course ).

My main reason is that I've driven both vehicles, and it's not even close. The TL is in a different class.

My main problem with the TL is this:

Honda's use of "thinner" sheetmetal. It's my main beef with the car. I don't know how exactly to measure the gauge of steel used, but steel on just about any other car is thicker than that which Honda uses on their vehicles......

Just remember, you get what you pay for.

These are good....keep em coming. Any thoughts are welcome.

Oh, and how's the resale on the TL? I won't even ask on the Maxima b/c I already know.
Acura doesn't discount their prices either, do they?

At dealers 99 TLs are still getting 23-25k around here. My dad paid 30k for his (no navi, but bought it when they were first out).

Generally, the resale will be miles ahead of Maximas......

Agreed. If I could afford it I would choose the TLS over a 2k2 Maxima. I would choose a BMW 330ci and eating ramen noodles for a year over both, but that's neither here nor there.

I have looked at a bunch of cars and also like the TLS and Maxima. I am a current 99 Max SE owner, and am very happy with the car. Ruled out the A4, 330i, and IS300.

Here the TLS is about 4,000 more than the Max SE. There are pros can cons of both.

Maxima
- Many don't like the back end
- Some think it is lower class than Acura
- Been very reliable
- More aggressive look
- Fast
- Less $
- Excellent VQ engine

Acura
- Style, class
- Built in US, and people are aware of tranny, rotor, and some minor
problems
- Fast
- Neat sports shift

Residual value is 52% for TLS, and 58% for the 2002 SE. The lease would cost me $150 more a month for the acura. If the cost was $50 a month, I would consider the TLS over the Max.

Also, where I live there are a lot of dislikeable Acura drivers. One other reason that I stayed away.

The other night after the move my galfriend turned and saw a TLS and she said it was nice. Then we saw a Max and she said it looks like a Tauras!!! Heheha
