Fuel Door Issue
So i was washing my color yesterday and i noticed that my fuel door isnt flush with my quarter panel. i've owned it since march '07 but ive never really noticed it. so im examining it and it sticks our were the hinge is. so if you were to run your hand across from the pass door your hand would catch the end of the door. im sry but i suck at the explaining lol. i tried to push it back and make it sit flush but it looked like the paint was going to spider web on me. it opens fine and closes fine but it bugs me. ive never hit it or anything. anyone else notice this on their max? any solutions other than a new fuel door?

HAHAHA this same exact thing happened to me last Saturday. I was washing the car, and had already noticed the door issue about a week earlier, so after the wash I took a look at it and the top half of the hinge broke off when I went to try and make it flush again. I dont know what to do yet. I have to take it all the way off the hinge to inspect but I think it's gonna need a totally new door...either that or I just live with it.
Seriously though, wtf??

yeah, i had something similar happened to me.. except mine didn't close fine... i had to bend the bullcrap out of the door and actually broke one of the pieces in there, but it closes fine now.. lol.. just looks a little weird.. i have no idea what causes it though.. i would like to know

How is the fuel filler door removed? Mine has a dent & scratch in it and ideally, I'd like to find another titanium I30 in the boneyard and just swap the fuel filler door, instead of having a body shop fix it.
On my other car, the whole assembly (door/hinge) unbolts. I haven't looked at my I30 to see if it was readily apparent how to remove the door.

I had to back off my screws and slide it to the left because something weird happened to it so it would jam with the autorelease..
Just happened one day.. Not sure why.
I have the same problem several of you do where the left side of the door is sprung outward compared to the body of the car. I wonder what the heck causes that.

Easy Outs, like a GraBit or similar from Sears? Thats the only way I can think of, unless you can get a pair of Vise Grips in there. I'd normally say machine the side of the screws flat, but I'd not use a dremel that close to the gas filler or gas tank, no matter if the cap is on or not.. .. KABOOM.

i know you car is icelandic pearl but how well did the paint match up with the new door? i have a tungsten blue metalic and the reason i havent replaced it is because i dont want to have two different shades of paint and make it look tacky.

The door is about $20 and the paint was around $100. The paint matched pretty well since it was Nissan that did it, so the paint code is OEM. Other paint on the rest of the car has faded a bit compared to the door, but it's not so much of a difference that you'd notice if I didn't tell you.
About the screws - just get a larger size like a #3 or #4 bit size and you'll be fine.
