To owners of a Stillen RSB

I recently bought a Stillen RSB from a fellow org member. I had a lot of problems intalling it. Had to get new bolts and stuff but hard to find but finally found them. The only thing they didn't have were the spacers. So I was wondering if the spacers are really needed? Also I noticed that the RSB had 4 holes. I thought that it had five. After 2 some hours I finally got that biatch on. It screwd on the first and last hole. I was wondering if i did it right. Also should the RSB be exactly under the beam? What I mean is there is the beam that goes from one end to the other and if you get underneath the car you see a bar (thiner) in the beam. I hope you guys know what i mean, anyways should the RSB be touching the bar in the beam? The reason i ask is because i went for a drive and only felt a slight diffrence but from what i have read, most max drivers rave about it.i'm guessing i might have done this wrong The way its installed, it's not touching the beam. I don't know how to describe it but if you guys want to see more pics of the install let me know.

hmmm.... the RSB should be mounted directly under the rear beam. Just use the correct holes on the RSB so that it lines up underneath the beam. If you do this, you will feel more of a difference. As for the spacers, which ones? The ones for the brake line?

I'm missing one of the spacers (lost it during an install) and don't have any problems.

or is he missing the spacers that go in the bottom holes on the bracket? those aren't really necessary, right?

It took me a while too. It was a sob to try to compress the bar inside the brackets to insert the screws...

I thought my bar would touch the axle too, but it is about 1/4 inch from it I think.

**From the pic it looks like you have it on the wrong holes on the bar, shouldn't it be on the 3rd and 5th from the end (counting towards the bend)? Does a 4th gen only have 4 maybe? I think you also have to move the whole thing up a bit.**

It was during the 300ZX brake conversion... someone probably kicked it.

Holes 3 and 5 should be used for on car.

I'm missing one of the spacers to the emergency brake cable myself ... different reasons though.

I didn't even notice them in the box and didn't think Stillen sent them to me. Installed the bar anyway and found them. Never took the time to install them and have had not problems. Actually those spacers are now being used for the battery hold down for my optima. Since the red top isn't as tall as the stock, I needed a spacer to get the nut to hold the battery down.

Re: To owners of a Stillen RSB

That's strange that it only has 4 holes. You need to move the bar forward on the car to see a bigger difference. It shouldn't touch the other bar.

Is that a good thing or a bad thing? And does that mean that what we get without the RSB is understeer??

our cars come with a lot of understeer naturally. The RSB helps get rid of some of that....

Hey Keving, I have mine set on 1 and 4...so what would the difference be between 1 and 4 /3 and 5. The brackets must be really close with the 3 and 5 setting. My bar is right under the back part of the beam...hmmm maybe i should move it up more.

i have move the bar up. i will post pics a little later when i find the disk. and you guys tell me if i did it right. so far i hear clunking sounds when i go over bumps and dips from the passenger side. Hmmmm...i'm going to have to check it out. This is a pain in the A$$. I e-mailed stillen in hopes that they would have a template to i can just drill the missing hole but they wrote that they didn't have one and they sent me pdf. file of the instructions and a pic to blow up and see if it would help. Anyways do any of you experience clunking noises with your stillen bar? Thanks guys.

and the final one. Now I am confused should the bar be touching the RSB...bar to bar, one on top of the other? I had a chance to test it out again and i like it better than before only there is a clunking noise that comes from the passenger side. I may know how to fix it but what do you guys think can i do better?

the brackets are designed to fit around the guard thing for the brake line, if you have the brackets set off of the guard, they might be in a position to wear down the brake line...

If I were you I'd contact the guy I got the RSB from and ask him why it only has 4 holes. Something sounds fishy

I bought the bar from a guy who had a fourth gen. i posted this up on the general forum to see what somw of the 4th gen people said and one of them said that his had four holes. I thought the bar was for 1995-2002 maximas. Don't know what I am going to do. here is a pic of where the brackets are.

UPDATE.

I reposition the car as close to the beam as possible. I have an idea on how to move it up closer but I would have to remove the screws to the left and right of the screw to the brake line you are supposed to remove. Here are picks... I hope third the third time is a charm. It better be since it took me 5 hrs to do this since the one side had the bolts and nuts so stuck that i had to hack saw the dam things off. If you all want to see them let me know. Otherwise here are the pics.

It does feel alot better. Only thind is that I had to move it up slighty more a tad bit because the clunking noise got worse. To top it off on of the nuts has become super tight that I think I am going to have to use a hack saw to get that thing out. I tighten it back and no more cluncking but new concers have come up such as the brake lines.
