Just bought 01 Max

I just purchased a 2001 Maxima SE...60000 miles...

Was wondering if there any known problems I need to look for in this car?

Sorry for the lame question....just haven't done much research on the car yet....

Any tips would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks...

If there are is no CEL on, and it's driving fine, you should be good to go.

I have an 01 also with 77k miles and have not had a single thing go wrong. (knock on wood)

Congrats on the new ride!!
The alternators are a weak spot. In the winter it is easy to over tax the system in the daily commute. If you start running too many things while doing the traffic crawl the draw on the system is great and the alts will try to keep up and over heat. That will lead to premature failure and also shorten the battery life. Sometimes you have to be selective on what you run, ie. rear def or fog lights, seat heater (if equipped & should only be used to heat up the seat, not run continually.)

Thanks TurtleHead...

Its running fine.....only thing is I put gas in it yesterday and had the ses light come on after about an hours worth of driving...swung by advance and had the code read....said it was the gas cap not on tight enough....cleared the code and haven't had any trouble since....

Thanks again

I did a lot of research before I purchased my 01 Max SE. Ignition coils are sometimes a problem, mass air flow sensor also.

Still didn't stop me from buying my new baby!

Congrats on your new ride! Post some pics when you get a chance.

on the alternators. If you got 60K on the Max and it's still has the original alty, consider yourself lucky.

The MAF's on the 01's are one of the strongest years for them, you should've known that if you "did a lot of research" :

The problem MAF's are for 02's

My '01 20th anniv edition has been trouble free.

It just hit 100K last week and today the SES light came on. I'll go have it "read" tomorrow. Other than that, the car has been trouble free.

I commute 100 miles a day on the freeway so I've never had any alternator problems, and I use all the toys on my drive. At 100K the shocks are tired and I'm on the second set of tires (OEM plus 1 replacement set). One set of brake pads and oil/filter changes is all that's been done.

Make sure to check your in-cabin filter. Everyone forgets them and they get clogged.

Enjoy!!

So did you purchase the car from a used car dealer or a private seller?

go to the nissan dealer and make a premium maintenance or a full check, they will tell you everything about your car.
