SES Light Came On First Time

I'm driving a 2001 SE with 67k miles on it. Never had any problems with it. My Service Engine Soon (SES) light came one two days ago for the first time ever.

No new modifications to vehicle whatsoever in years. Injen Intake was installed when the car only had 20k miles on it (over 3 years ago). Filter on the Injen has been changed twice since then without any issues. I perform the usual maintenance on the vehicle regularly.

Any ideas as to why the SES came on? 60k mile maintenance maybe? Any help is appreciated!

might be because you did not fully tighten the gas cap
go to your local autozone and they will run a free diagnostic and tell you why it is on

The next time I filled up with gas, I tightened the gas cap a little bit more than usual and the Service Engine Soon light went off. Thanks for the tip SlurpeeKing!

go to autozone they will scan it for free in hopes that you will buy the part
ELECTRONIC PARTS ARE NOT RETURNABLE IN MOST CASES/STORES
so before you actually purchase anything you must 1st inspect your own part and its wiring and components
just because you have a code doesnt mean anything is actually wrong with the part in question
the retaining screw may have come loose and its not close enough to read its trigger or it fell completely out of the block
whos pos(crank) sensor did that in that other thread i read??? lol
they bought the part before looking at the old 1 and found it hanging
they screwed it back in and bam no more code
you can waste alot of $$$ that way lol

My baby is a 2002 Maxima SE. The SES light often goes on and off. The first time it happenned I dropped about $400 for an emission repair. The car seemed to me to run the same before and after the job, so I really question if I should have brought it in. A few months later the SES light came back on, then off a few weeks later. This on/off action has happenned often. My approach now is if all seems well with the car I ignore it. If something seems a bit off and the SES light goes on, then I will bring it in for service. I've heard alot about gasoline and/or gas caps causing it. Also heard alot about the emission control system causing the SES light to come on. If I could would pull the bulb for that stupid thing.

We try not to "bump" threads that are older then yesterday unless you have some form of information to add to that thread that was not all ready there...
