A newbie question--K&N Drop In Air Filter

Hi Quys,

I am a newbie here, though I have followed this forum for about one
year. Well, I have a 2000 Maxima SE Auto. I just did my first performance Mod--a K&N Drop In Filter. After the installation, I had a test drive and felt noticable improvement on the throttle response. Also the car seemed to pull stronger.

So I was wondering if your fellows who have done the K&N Mod, was the performance improvement noticable on your car? The manufacture claims
4-10hp increase. Is it true?

Thanks.

I've got one on my 2001 SE/AE. Maybe you could get 10hp from a drop in if you had a free flow exhaust too. I cannot remember who it was, but they dynoed one and it gave like 1-2hp. So maybe it adds 4 to the engine only 1-2 hit the road. With an auto, you and I will lose even more power just cause sticks can put more power to the road. I really got it cause I'm not to the intake route cause I want to keep all the torque I can and you do not have to replace, just clean it every 25k miles.

Not sure on the 10 hp gains, but I would say about 2-4 is more realistic. Manufacturers claim a lot of things, like 500watt car amps that cost only $100! Anyways, welcome to the org., but, be warned, the more you're in here, the bigger the mod bug....

I put mine in about 1 month ago. Didn't notice ANY difference.

Even if there were a 2-5hp gain, with 222hp originally on tap, would you really notice that small an addition of hp?

It could be the "placebo" effect?

I am guessing since you had the drop-in first that you got the Y pipe afterwards. What have been your experiences with it? Many of said to get the intake with the y pipe, but im not a big fan of them, because of the loss of torque and all the crap I know that I will have to deal with over at nissan. I am just curious about your impressions, because I am ready to get one. Thanks for any advice.

I hear ya. My first mod was a sticker , then I just kept adding new things after coming here. I think I'm done for a while after I get my HD grille. But who knows.
