It doesn’t/wouldn't matter what gen it is.

It will do it regardless of gen.

I used it and it only worked for 3 minutes because I was pumping fuel, and well, I had to start the car again to leave the station.

I'm not putting another penny into my car. I'll just keep clearing my p0420 code USING MY CODE SCANNER.

I think I may have found away to turn off the check engine light without re-setting the computer, but it doesn't last long, maybe about 2-3 weeks or depending on mileage you drive I have not quit figured it out yet. After I got so upset with looking at the check engine light, one day I just sat in my car and turn the key from the off position to the on position (but Not starting the car) about 3-5 times I Don't know where that idea came from maybe from the Maxima Gods , but within I guess 24 hours with the car off there should be no check engine light when you start it back up!, I have done it about 3 times already since my check engine light came on about three months ago. I don't know if this will work for everyone, I don't know the side effects from it but nothing has happen to my car yet! So I hope this helps for some of you with the check engine. I just hate when I have people in the car and they say oh, your check engine light is on, and I say to myself Yeah like I didn't see the orange light burning a hole in my face! Good luck! Let me know if this works for anyone or if anyone has done this before
its an interesting discovery..next time I get a SES I will def. give it a try. People here would rather you post about a problem than something like this I guess you took their "investigative role" away

You mentioned a possible alternative and they gave you crap about it...atleast they are consistent on this forum

When you use a scanner to clear codes, do those codes come back and if so how long does it take>? When you use the scanner to clear the codes aren't you just covering up the problem? Or are you clearing the codes to get rid of the check engine light?

If you don't fix the problem, it will come back. How long depends on the code.

If you don't fix the code, the problem wont go away.

Yeah but you never answered my question, the people who dont agree with my different way of getting rid of the check engine light are telling me to just get a scanner and clear the codes, but after the ECU cycles wouldt the light come back on?

Yes it would, if you don't fix the code.

My point exactly so whats the difference between doing it my way (if it works for you) and doing it the way of using a scanner

Either way your clearing the codes to get rid of the check engine light right?

Ok, so ...

I never clear mine because it will come back the same day (2nd start). I will only clear them whenever I decide to fix my 'problem'.
