Oil Filters - PureOne, Mobil 1, OEM ?

Question on recommended oil filters for an 01 max.

It used to be OEM (9E000) before - but since I've heard that the OEM construction is no longer superior (true or not ?)

The options that I see are the Mobil 1 (M1-110) for about $11 and the Purolator Pure One (PL14610) for about $6 or the Purolator Premium Plus.

Is there anything else that comes recommended ??
Any feedback on the above mentioned filters ?

Oil Change interval would be about 7k miles (on synthetic if it matters).

Thanks!

@ReauDog

I should've mentioned that I searched and hit that thread before.

However as I remember it, bill is no longer actively updating that list and this list was made a few years back (based on how the filter were made then)

For example, the OEM filter is rumored to have gone down in build quality (cardboard endcaps etc now) - so things do change.

My question was for someone to share their recent experience.

I had the impression there were two types of OEM, and one of them came from Mexico and had lower quality.

I bought like 10 oil filters once I located the better OEM in a dealer, i think they have diff numbers.

Sorry buddy, i dont recall the specifics.

The 9E000 quality depends on when and for long the dealer has them stocked. I bought some earlier this year and they were still the "old batch" but I'll see if I can tear one apart to check for sure my next oil change.

I've used both Mobile One and Purolator Pure One as well and think those are fine. The BITOG forums may have more updated reviews, so I'd check there as well.

Its all love homie, no hard feelings. I have been lurking around these boards for about 6 months now, i just know that the folks that have been here for a while was going to do the same thing... they get kinda ****/**** about that... (i don't know WHY, but I just know that they do)

now for your original question, I'm not sure the QUALITY of the OEM filter has changed, i just know they went from saying "Made In Japan" to "Made In China" (or perhaps the other way around), for all I know it could be made the EXACT same way with the exact same quality standards.... just made in another place!! But what I do know is that all the filter that you named, Mobil 1, and the Puralators are definetly better than the OEM filter. I personally Use the Mobil 1 filter ($8 @ Autozone) and run Mobile 1 Synthetic oil, haven't had any problems.

Wix/Napa Gold are great filters, I specially like their flow and not disappointed with their filteration if the OCI is 5K miles.

Great construction, among the best in flow and among top five in filteration (IMHO, flow is more important than filteration when it comes to filters).

Many years ago a Nissan parts tech told me that Nissan will replace an engine if the failure is tied to a defective oil filter. I don't know about the other brands, but that seemed like good insurance to me. The oil filter is only on the engine for 3000-5000 miles so I would think that it's replaced way before the internal construction would have any affect on cleaning the oil. I still use OEM for that reason.

I bought a batch of the old school nissan oil filters. they work well with Mobile1 synthetic. I never seen these ghetto new OEM filters.

The cavet to this statement is provided the damage happens before 60K miles. After that it is owner's headache (even lousy american auto engines don't die before 60K miles). Engine damage is slow, but when it hits you which is usually after 60K miles, it hits you hard.

it doesn't matter what oil filter you use as long as you change your oil + filter regularly. don't believe the hype of syn or high priced oil/filters.

you're right.
i'm wrong.
i'm not going to debate this with you.
3k/3month changes and you can use the cheapest stuff out there and you're fine.
period.

edit: the reason i can afford a nice car is i don't buy into $50 oil changes ever 3k miles.

synthetic doesnt have to be changed every 3k btw. But i guess as long as you change it at the right times w/ the cheap stuff its better than those who belive in just adding oil.

i have been READING the boards for about 6 months now, right after i bought my car. I just never set up an account. I just searched and found all the information that i ever needed whenever i faced a problem that i was having, and there was never a need to post anything.

I agree to a certain point. I don't waste money on syn oil or money on so called extend life filters. Waste of money in my opinion, but I use 5.00 pureone filter and 2.25 qt castrol gtx. And yes I do believe if you change every 3000 miles you don't need expensive oil and filters...

Read this on BITOG .... apparently the newer "made in china" OEM filters are nearly identical to the older "made in japan" versions. Looks like OEM is still good - I think I'll stick with it (and maybe cut it open after use to see the real deal)

Even w/ a 5K OCI, I don't really see how "bad" the 65F00 and 9E000 can possibly be. I've used both on several different vehicles with up to a 5.5K OCI without any issues whatsoever. (and the thousands of vehicles that are currently running these filters don't seem to be having much trouble either)
