I dont think the auto. Max is going to beat a new Prelude, or even better yet, the previous gens (92-96 VTECs).

Of course, the manuals are going to mod better, but in bone stock form they are pretty much dead even. The later sho's were only automatic V8s but were so terribly put together they were slow as all hell, slower than the eariler SHOs even.

The 3.2 is not stroked, only bored. It has no more hp than the 3.0. The auto SHO and manual SHO are nowhere close to dead even. The manual will be .5-.7 quicker in the 1/4. An auto Max will get killed by a 5-spd SHO. Versus an auto it would be a decent race I would think (with most auto's, inlcuding the v8's, running 15.7-9.)

A few weeks ago I was at a gas station feeding my max when these two kids pulled in, a Lexus ES300 and a new Chevy Impala (w/Type R stickers on the fenders!) They both seemed like friends and were talking about their cars. The impala guy was telling the lexus guy that he could take him again. Anyways to keep it short, after getting gas I left and was at a 4way stop behind a buick by the time I got through the stop I saw both of those cars coming up right behind me. The lexus guy starts tailing me trying to get me to change lanes and let him pass. As soon as the Buick turned into the right lane I punched it and went into the right lane and slowed down, lexus catches up, slows down looks at me and punches it, I punch it again, catch up and start pulling on him then gave him flashers (I am not sure what those exactly mean!) and slowed, the lexus pulls in my lane behind me so now the impala comes up. For some reason I was too nervous about the impala because I had no Idea how fast they are so when I saw him coming up to my left I just punched it when I looked I had pulled on him, I slowed down to see if he was actually racing. When he came up to me he gave me the signal and puched it, the funny thing is that he had this grin on his face like he was easily going to take me, so I puched it all the way and you know the rest of the story...

You really want to know....

Go to a track and race some cars. Then you'll know which ones you can "kill."

AV6's can also beat any GM car with the 3800SI engine, but the 3800SII equipped ones are tougher. They'll take us off the line but we'll still run them down in 2nd gear. Forget about the 3800SII/SC ones though from a stop. Might be closer from a roll. They have mad torque down low but still wheeze out on the top side.

The Max/auto is slightly faster than an Accord V6 but the performance is still very similar so the results for us should hold true for the above as well, although you guys should come a little closer to beating GTP's/GS's, etc...
my friend said his "fully loaded taurus with V-TEC smoked a 5spd civic" "Who knows, Ford uses a lot of other manufacturer parts, it is possible taht it has vtec" then last week he said its "vor-tec, I checked" (GMC truck engine ) no matter what I try, I cannot out talk that guy, so funny

the new one has 240hp VQ engine, I don't think the maxima will run away from that, probably walk away . The old one runs 18s in the 1/4

Walk ??

0-60 in 9.2 seconds

and 1/4 mile of 17seconds @80 mph

PS. those numbers are straight out of the 2002 nissan pathfinder brochure... (yay swiss army watch!!!)

Yep, they weigh alot. Horsepower is not the ultimate word. Weight plays a big part. As another example, the WRX has the same horsepower of a 2001 SE AE but it does 0-60 in 5.4 seconds. It is very light also.

Yup, exactly.... it's all about weight..

I wouldn't look down on the pathfinder tho... in it's class (price range), it's prolly one of the fastest SUV's... Sorta like the "Maxima" of the SUV world..

I ran against a RSX the other night. It was up hill. I didnt know he wanted to go till a few feet off the line he nailed it. So by the time the automagic downshifted and got going he was about a car length on me, but i had no problem pulling past him. I dont know what it would do from a start, but another one for the list.

Nope, I tried to mess with a Viper GTS with a license plate of "GOES192" and got spanked from 30mph and up! All I saw was his @$$ end and that license plate.
I wish he was towing 2 other Vipers...then I would've had a better chance!

That guy must not know how to drive. A good driver in a Viper would spank you from 30 inches and up. RWD and 450 ft/lbs. of torque takes you off the line just a little bit faster than a Maxima can move.

If the Viper was towing two other Vipers, I think you could have taken him.

He spanked me like a red-headed step child (no offense to anyone). It was so bad that I had to laugh...

What can a 00-01 Automatic Maxima beat?

erm, nothing with performance in mind. minivans. Pick-em-up trucks, erm...

Automatics = for women

You're on par with V6 Accords... so, anything a V6 accord can beat, an 00-01 auto will beat.

Hey, is that some type of insult for the male owners of automatic Maximas? Wait, it is an insult!

Again, I must buy a manual to prove my devout manly-ness.

He'll take you off the line (legendary 3800 V6 low-end torque) but once you hit the top-end in first you'll start pulling on him, probably pass in the middle of 2nd gear, and then just keep on pulling after that. Accord V6's can beat em so you can too

The Pathfinder 3.5

You guys are right in that you really would expect more than 9.0/17.0s level performance from an SUV with 240HP. This is sorta what you get though when you try to put an engine designed for a sedan in a 4000+ lb SUV - you have a very heavy vehicle and an engine that doesn't have enough low-end torque to get the sucker moving quickly.

Two possible solutions in the drietrain department.

1) The American "Big Iron" approach: increase displacement (JGC V8)
2) The Japanese approach: Cancel it out with better gearing (Acura MDX 5AT Tranny)

The Acura MDX has similar power and weight as the Path 3.5, but the 5AT tranny with shorter and closer 1-3 gearing makes it almost as fast as my damned Accord V6, and a Max/auto (excluding 02 )!!

The Pathfinder is still using a 4AT and that sucks. It really needs a 5AT bad - and its performance numbers show that. Nissan needs to get their @$$es in gear and release a 5AT tranny. Honda/Acura and Toyota/Lexus all have them but still not Infiniti or Nissan yet. What gives?? I hear they're working on one though

Now, if it was a Venom 650R pulling 2 other Vipers, it would have been a close race. Granted, over 3 times the weight, but 3 times the HP and T as well. Scary, isn't it? I know, I've driven one.

I'd have to second that. Nissan has the best V6 and a pretty impressive V8(Q45). It is time to make a slick shifting automatic tranny. Hell outright copy the A4's CVT. Charge $1000 for that option.

hey SteVTEC, thanks for the reply. (I was thinking someone was going to flame me on this one)

Yea this guy just purchased a Impala last month and brags to everyone how fast it is and if someone wants to drag...

well my friend was talking to me yesterday and told me that the guy actually messed with him and fyi my friend drives a Chevy S-10 Xtreme (and extremely modified too) Needless to say he got his *** chewed by my friend.

Apparently the guy raced a 4-cyl accord coupe and beat it so he is like, Accords are slow!

Now I don't really want to give a wrong impression but I am not that kind of guy that drives around town irritating people trying to race them, nah, but if the guy messes with me then I will race him. So I will drive my Max all next week and see how it goes

(BTW & OT, my younger brother got a ticket doing 40! in a 20MPH schoolzone yesterday while driving the Maxima!! He said that he didnt even notice, cause by the time his integra reaches 40 he usually feels it (Exhaust) he thought he was doing below 20! since there was no other traffic, $158 OUCH! what a moron . I remember it used to be the same with me in my accord before I did the suspension mods and got low profile tires)

I have a 01 se automagic. I ran my car the other night. I ran 15.8 with the TCS on and leaving it in drive. Then i ran 15.6 without TCS and shifting 1-2-Drive. Both runs were at 88mph. Both of these runs were with a powerbrake of 2000 rpms. Sorry i dont have a scanner to show the time slips. But why would i BS about those times. I believe there might be another 0.1 sec in there but not much more than that. I went right before redline and the car shifted at redline. I felt faster but obviously not. I also have no mods, 100% stock, done at 45degrees, so nice and cold air.

Quick Reply: So what cars can a Maxima (Automatic) actually "KILL"?
