alternator issues

I just installed a new alternator in my 2000 max. Everything works fine except it shuts off at high RPM (after 3500). At first my belt was loose, I tighten it up and got rid of that squeal, but the alty still shuts off. Besides taking it off and having auto zone checking it out, is there any sensors or relays that i should check out?

You might want to change the belt. Once they slip they can glaze the belt. No matter how tight you make it, it might still be slipping.

When I first changed my alternator I also replaced the belt, and a new alternator idler pulley along with it (b/c the bearing was about to break and it started making a diesel engine type noise). It worked like a charm but after 2 months, the car died on me, it wouldn't start back up. I had it towed to the stealership,

I have a 2kmax also so far I've changed battery, alternator (twice), and recently new starter motor. So far everything is good, but car at startup is not that good, the RPM drops really low. ]

Update: now the alternator shuts off at regular cruising speeds and sometimes after I hit a bump. I have a dedicated route to school and it always shuts off at a certain area. It’s either a bump or a certain time. I turn the car off, then turn it on again and everything is fine. Any suggestions?

Just out of curiosity without passing judgement, where did you buy the alternator?

sounds almost like a loose wire, might wanna go over everything and make sure its all tight. also you can put a load tester o your battery to semi check your altenator. good luck

how can it be a loose wire if I turn the car off and on again and the alty kicks in.

i just installed a alternator on mines and im getting less power. the car pulls hard and it sounds like its pushing hard. the mechanic felt the need to disconect the coolant hose above the alternator and ac compressor and soaking it all. now i might have a bad ac compressor (hopefully not) or bad idle pulley.

Loose wires, check the battery terminals, make sure they are all tight. Then check your alternator to make sure the wires on them are tight.

If wires all checked out, then you may have a faulty voltage regulator or faulty alternator. I've gotten a faulty alternator from Autozone before, actually went through 3 of them within two days. Autozone alternators can be really off-spec sometimes.
