Wheel lock nuts

Wheel lock nuts

So the Stealership spun a lock nut on too tight when they did my brakes a month or so ago, and I can't get the key to sit flush on the lock nut to engage the teeth. Of course they reject accountability for it. Any ideas how I can get this f****r off? Snow will fly very soon here in W Mass, I can't be rolling on 20's in as many inches of snow, I'll end up posting crash pictures.

1. Do your own brakes in the future to avoid these situations, and brakes are easy enough.
2. I would suggest a hammer and some sort of chisel device

i have a kit, from snap-on, that removes lock nuts with out the needed key.



i'm not sure if they sell them at a local parts store, but it would not hurt to check.

try calling up wheel shops because they can take it out with less damage.

Ehh.. I had this problem with a different car and my mechanic fixed it using my method without causing a scratch.

Most of the places are just gonna go get a cheap o socket, pound it over the lug and use the impact on it. Id suggest doing this yourself if you have an impact.

i hadn't thought of that. i just bought my car and had no key for the locks. the dealership charged me $30 to take them off and put regular lugs on(half of what they initially quoted me). i wish i read this thread a few days ago and saved myself 30 bucks.

and as for the OP, don't let the dealership do your brakes. only let the dealer do the things you or a competent mechanic can't do themselves. brakes are simple, any shop could do it and even the dishonest ones won't charge as much as the dealer

Discount Tire will remove them for $5 each tire. I lost the lug lock when I had my 626 and they had no problems getting the wheel locks off.

wheels are off. took it to the place I bought my snows from last year, they did it for nada.

Pound a cheap socket on it with a hammer then take it off. I have done this in the past. It will more in likely ruin your socket though.

A more radical approach would be to weld a nut on it. Would not recommend though.
